Safest way to buy games on Steam? (PayPal, etc.)

Thread Starter
Hey there! So I've recently been taking advantage of the amazing deals on Steam throughout every week with the intention to build a solid games library, however I've read about many troubles with Steam and people getting their accounts banned.
I will never share my account and/or password, and won't cheat, hack, etc. however it seems that some others who obey the same rules have gotten their accounts permanently banned.

After finishing reading a thread about why not to use PayPal to buy games from Steam, I thought I'd ask the opinions of several Steam users as to what method of buying games from Steam is the safest? PayPal? Credit or debit card? Steam Wallet?

Much appreciated!

I use a prepaid visa debit card for pretty much all my online purchases. Other than Paypal I haven't heard of any problems using CC or debit cards for Steam purchases.

Don't use Paypal? You can't be serious, I use it all the time.
Er, turns out it pull it directly from my Mastercard...

Also the people that get banned are the ones that do dumb things like enter illegal keys or hack.

Thanks people! Appreciate the replies

I think I'm going to start using my debit card for all Steam purchases from now on.
But I think it's important to note that I was reading a thread a while back about how someone who didn't hack, share, cheat, etc. got his account banned because PayPal screwed up by doing something called a "charge-back" or something. Steam wouldn't re-activate his account because it was PayPal's problem, and PayPal wouldn't resolve the issue. o:

I use only paypal just incase steam gets hacked like Sony did. I never have my information saved in the purchase screen either.

I doubt I really have to say this, but make sure you check your account history every-time you buy something on steam.

I purchased one copy Sf4:AE and saw steam charge me for two copies. You never know.

I use a credit/debit card, but, I no longer store my information on the account due to all the recent online infiltrations of other companies, I won't count on Steam being exempt, not taking the chance.

Don't forget that your PC itself can be a security leak if you have malware.

I've never liked the idea of paypal, if you can debit it directly from you bank, that's the safest way in my opinion, also, usually banks are pretty good at dealing with any discrepancies that may arise, I'm sure paypal has similar policy's in place but having a 3rd party keep my money and not allow me access for a few days isn't my idea of freedom of payment...
