Dell H2C TEC

Thread Starter
hi.

Has anyone re-used the H2C cooling system that Dell shipped with their 710-730 XPS machines? they have a TEC and watercooling loop and I have one and was hoping to use some \\ all of it in a new build, but not sure how I should wire it etc. Anyone have any experience or ideas where I should look?

Cheers!

I think that's essentially a TEC chiller with a controller, running two loops. There are 2 TECs in the chiller.
It's similar to CoolIt boreas. I wonder what kind of TEC Dell uses and how much power it draws?
If you could get a multi-meter to measure the output of the TEC power connector of the Dell power supply, you can tell the polarity and the voltage used.

I'm not sure when I'll get a chance, but i'll try stick a voltmeter on it - so once I know what the voltage is I'll have a better idea of if it can be re-used?

I saw a Dell white paper which said they got CoolIt to make them, so you could be right about the similarities...

It's better if you use the original controller. I believe Dell tuned its performance and the settings are stored in the controller.

In case you decide to use a new power supply, you have to make sure the polarity and voltage supplied to the cooler are the same. If you can mechanically fit it in the new system you should be able to use it.

Well from the psu it is getting 12 volts and the molex connector wires are lose. That would be the perfect place to use a clamp on amp meter.

That said I need help on this topic. I purchased a H2C unit for a XPS 720(KU128) and codemicro sent me the unit without the power adapter and dell tech support is useless. The power connector to the unit has 6 pins but it is smaller than a pcie power plug. Does anyone know the name of that connector? The other end would have a 6pin molex connector to the psu.

edgasket if we have the same unit I would appreciate pics of the power adapter.
Also if you have the 710-720 version like I do you will need to modify the unit to fit anything besides BTX. If you post pics of your MB I might have some suggestions.

Thanks the KU238 is what I am looking for.
Well Dell customer service is a cruel joke, they will not sell me a KU238 only the whole unit.

I have the P14 pin configuration from the power supply could anyone tell me the pin configuration for the H2c unit plug. I will solder my own cable to it.

edgasket have you picked out a motherboard you plan to use?

I'll probably use an Asus P8P67 Pro or P8Z68-V Pro, depends what's in stock when the RMA for the board (P8P67 pro) gets processed.

I'll check the pin to pin config for you, but because of work and college etc, it could be next weekend...
