Speakers w/ sub on laptop

Thread Starter
I'm wondering how I can get a decent pair of speakers with a sub woofer hooked up to a newer dell laptop. I know, it's not going to sound awesome, but it's for my sister in her dorm room.

Suggestions?

Pick any pair of Logitech speakers she'd like, or any other powered speaker set. As long as it has external power, it'll be fine.

Just buy a pair of logitech's, they have a 3.5mm male end. Just plug it into the laptop and you're good to go. I myself have a pair and they sound great Logitech has a huge lineup of 2.1-7.1 computer speakers.

This is what I have on my desktop actually. It isn't the best and with the sub turned off it doesn't sound good at all, but you only need a little sub and it can crank out, plus there is a volume pot with the switch to turn off the speakers. They don't buzz, at least I can't hear it, and you can plug headphones into the pot or an aux (ipod) which it comes with a short cable and little stand for an ipod. For the price, I recommend these to many friends, I am in a dorm and people tell me to turn down my sub when I have it cranked all the way up. Great for the price, here is the

Please don't buy Logitech speakers. They may look good on paper, but they're nothing but watts, base, and crap quality.

Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 is all you need. They were powerful enough in the dorm that my friend next door came over to complain that his pencil was travelling across his desk. And the sound just oozes with quality - even attached to a laptop or mp3 player. I've had my set for 7 years now - best $150 I ever spent.

Oh, and now that your sister is a student, don't forget she gets a free 1-year Amazon prime membership with her .edu e-mail address.

I have a pair of surround sound speakers, and there are 4 connectors to my sound card. Her laptop only has one connector for the speakers. Can anyone link me some good speakers that will work?

cmeeks: That is a little more than she needs. I'm looking for something around $100 or cheaper.

I'm telling you, what I suggested is plenty. Set up and plug in and wow. Cheap too.
