It takes the number from the sum of two cards, divide it by two. When I had HD 2900 512 MB CF setup, I was seeing 950-1 GB on FarCry 2, which is not possible for one card to hit. BTW, I'd suggest using ATi Tray Tools if Ray Adams is still updating his SkyDrive. It's a very good app and I liked it more than nHancer. It offers real-time vRAM usage without having to run a client on the background.

Well the thread in the news section says it "needs" 1.3GB at 1080p for Ultra. So It's not surprising it can chew through the memory at 1600p.

Lowering the AA/texture quality should help.
Feeling your pain, at 1440p I'm almost near 1400mb with 4xaa on the vram :l Do you have SSAO or HBAO on? I'm not sure if either of those have an effect on the vram.

Will check it out, thanks for the tips +rep

So if it needs 1.3GB for 1080p what will happen when the actual game come out with better textures?

I dunno ... the world will end, maybe?

Have they said somewhere the real game is gonna have better textures than the Beta? I'd not heard that news before.

Anyways I'ma guess that vram usage won't be lower in the release version of the game. HOWEVER I would also bet that the actual game won't crash when you exceed vram capacity ... that sounds very much like a problem a Beta might have, that could (and should) be ironed out before the real release.

I have to say though the most interesting part of this thread (to me) has now become the part where someone said they can read their VRAM usage in AB on their AMD card

When did AMD (finally) get 'round to recoding their driver API to expose this value in se7en/vista (like nV did a couple years ago) so that AB can display it to the users? What driver version did that get added in, iow?

And I gather you have to divide the usage displayed by the number of cards you're running to get the 'actual' vram usage? Pretty interesting stuff ...

Thread Starter
I've turned off AA and lowered all settings from ultra to high and it still uses 1532mb when I'm in a big fire fight, I hope this is coding or drivers because I'm trying to hold out for the 680's and I really don't want to upgrade to 580's this late in the game.

I go from 950mb for 1 hr of gameplay then it jumps slow up to 1440mb think its a memory leak. This at ultra 1080p with max aa.

Mark Russinovich (from MS) found a way to access video memory usage through Vista/7 OS+ in Process Viewer. Then everyone else likely borrowed his findings. Unwinder used it for Afterburner.

Nvidia cards can access memory usage the same way although it uses the Nvidia API by default.

I use 1500 MB of ram on my 6970's in games like Shogun 2 maxed at 1920x1200. BF3 is going to be a VRAM killer if they boost the graphics even more. Most people probably have to run on medium or low to play, although it may be more competitively advantaged to play at lower settings.
