OCZ vertex plus review and warning!

Thread Starter
I bought a vertex plus 60g because the price was excelent but you get what you pay for....

Now the speeds were fine for windows and wow and some apps load times were excellent. But when it came time to restart my computer when i updated a driver the troubles started. I would get a chkdsk error and windows would fix it but the second or third time it happens then windows wont boot properly or all my files would be corrupted. Had to re-install windows 3 times in 3 weeks and I don't restart my pc much.

I thought maybe it was just me but heres new-egg reviews and ocz forums I thought i would give people thinking about picking one up on the cheap a heads up.

Lucky me new-egg decided to issue me a refund and i got an crucial m4 64g otw

So do yourself and your Dataz a favor and stay away from vertex plus.

Sorry about what happened man. That sucks. But do realize that there are the occasional faulty products that go out there. Doesn't mean the company or the product is bad.

In this case, the product wasn't the best but OCZ still makes some great SSDs.

Did you update the firmware? I've heard that the one that comes loaded on these things is garbage. In any case, thanks for the warning.

That is strange. I am running a Vertex 2 80GB and it is one of the most reliable SSDs I've used. I just removed my 120GB SF-2281 SSD because of BSOD issues, that was one of the worst SSD experiences of my life it rebooted every 4-48 hours (usually closer to 16). I've seen gone back to my SF-1222 based Vertex 2 for reliability sake. I would definitely check your firmware. I would also suggest making a clone of your SSD onto a rotational drive before trying the firmware update. *My next drive will definitely be a Marvell based SSD.

SSD Flash Drive Reviews
OP was using vertex +, not the same as vertex 2.

I wasn't expecting any better from these ssds. They seemed kind of shoddy.

One other thing chkdsk errors are a funny thing with SSD. Just because you get errors and/or bad blocks these disappear after you format. I had an older JMicron based G.Skill SSD that got some bad sectors, after doing a format they disappeared and the drive appeared completely healthy again.

@7ranslucen7 They are geared at the masses.... same as buying an OCZ Solid drive as an SATA3 replacement. 500MB/s is great but 20,000 IOPs is not much better than some of the higher end SF-1222 SATA2 drives. But for the average user it is way more reliable than a rotation drive and noticeable faster. Sadly the average user doesn't often do a firmware update prior to installing their OS for the first time.

i have two of these exact drive in Raid 0.
LOVE THEM and have purchased a few for friends and family.

I've noticed a trend among users that have system failures with SSDs (im included in this group haha), and it seems that alot of them are not getting set up properly.
Keep in mind, ALL SSD's are SIGNIFICANTLY different. Use the OCZ forums to find out the best way to set up your pc for the ssd you have. I will put money down that it just needs a little lovin and some careful setup.

**I recieved the same chkdsk error problem as well when i got my first SSD setup (the two vertex plus drives). I had alot of settings in the OS incorrect, had them plugged into the marvel SATA ports instead of the correct Intel ports, and had them setup in the bios for IDE. After i fixed it all up and did some research the drives are running INSANELY fast and im pulling the OS full boot in under 10 seconds at this point, zero errors or crashes for a few weeks now

I apprectiate all the posts but there is no firmware update or destrucive flash
for Vertex plus im not trashing ocz or anything but when 80% of a drives reviews are bad its just common sense to stay away.

I just wanted to let people know that this drive in particular was bad and the 120s seems to share the same issues.

Also i set up this ssd perfectly index off trim enabled achi mode only have one type of sata 2 port on old mobo and on new mobo im in the asrock sata 3
ports still same issues.
