G.Skill Ripjaws X vs Corsair Vengeance; My findings.

Thread Starter
These are some quick findings on my part using Corsair Vengeance versus G.Skill Ripjaws X memory.

To start off, both memory kits are 2 x 4G modules. Both have rated 9-9-9-24 1.5v timings and voltage.
First, I installed the Corsair Vengeance onto my 990FXA-UD7. I ran the BIOS in all defaults, other than setting the SATA controllers to run AHCI and manually setting timings and voltage for the memory modules. No overclocking or tweaking of CPU or NB at all.

Corsair Vengeance
Stock: 1600Mhz 9-9-9-24 34 tRC 2T 1.5v
Fastest Overclock: 1600Mhz 9-9-9-24 34 tRC 1T 1.5v

G.Skill Ripjaws X
Stock 1600Mzh 9-9-9-24 34 tRC 2T 1.5v
Fastest Overclock: 1600Mhz 8-9-8-24 33 tRC 1T 1.5v

Both kits, even after adjust voltages up to 1.65v, could not get to run higher than 1600Mhz, even with loose timings such as 11-11-11-30 41 tRC 2T

However, the G.Skill Ripjaws X easily and happily go to 8-9-8-24 33 tRC 1T 1.5v without much effort. To push them past that they dont like to boot. Would have been nice to achieve a even 8-8-8-24 even at 2T, however they wont budge.

Disclaimer: I am by no means a overclocking guru, genious, advertiser, representative, God, Jesus, Alah, etc. These are my findings by my amateur overclocking experience from the past.

If anyone would like me to run any specific tests, timings or other CPU NB settings. Feel free to ask and I will perform them and post the results here or in this thread.

Would like to see what your maxxmem scores are..
You should raise your NB to 3000(or higher if you can)
overclock the processor to id say 3.8 Ghz
Youll want to make sure the HT is not set to auto set it at 2000-2400 (some where between those)

Just lower the Frequency of the gskill and corsair ram to 1333 and youll get lower timings..
AMD systems like lower latency alot more then higher Frequency...
but the new BD chips and set ups i believe will enjoy the tight timings at really high memory Freq.

Pretty nice would like to see how tight you can get these puppies at 1333-1066

Sounds fun. I currently have the G.Skills installed. I will work on those first.
However, first right now, I am going to bump up to a CPU/NB overclock. So will be doing that first. Then I will play with the ram timings and run some Maxxmem on them.

Be back in a few hours!! (Just gonna use 10runs IBT for stability)

Edit: I actually will keep this thread update while I try overclocks. I'll just use my laptop.

Well, as for any overclock. I am currently heat limited. This 212+ even in a Push/Pull setup with two 2k rpm fans cant keep this 1090T very cool at all. Already hitting 56*+ and only at 3.9Ghz. So, just gonna get a quick stable 3.8Ghz, NB at 3Ghz then start on the memory timmings.

Not bad ready for these bad boys biggrin.gif
Gskill is always good
Got a full set of Flares and man they are nice...

remember to do some volt tweaking to with the memory along with theCpuNB it will help get that up so you get a higher reached mem score under maxxmem
On my sig i have amd maxxmem group...that is a good list of users to see where you fit in...i bet youll get descent scores under there along with stabilty

Well. gonna try to run a quick test of Maxxmen. @1333 they are bootable at 7-7-7-23 1T
Edit: Keeping stable overclock of 3.8Ghz, NB 3Ghz HT 2Ghz.

Edit: Ok. promptly crashed when trying to do anything other than idle desktop in windows. Gonna bump voltage up

For Maxxmen just default settings? Standard Priority?
Going to run a few at these 7 7 7 24 1T timings. then I'll go back to 9 9 9 24 and try different variations.

So, decided, *** why not try a suicide run and see if it can boot at 7-7-7-24 @ 1600Mhz...nope. Bumped voltage up to maxx 1.65v..nope. /sigh heh

So far, getting better Maxxmem scores at looser timings and higher freqs. At 77724 1333 was a 9Gbs score, at 89824 1600 a 10.34Gbs score..gonna try stock timings.

Cant get any better timings at 1600 with these Gskills. Maybe tomm can get some ppl on MSN and we can work this out using my webcam..
