Slightly Lower Timings + 1600Mhz vs. Slightly Higher Timings + 2133Mhz

Thread Starter
As the title says, I'm stuck between choosing the following two RAM.

G.Skill Ripjaws X F3-12800CL7D-8GBXH
$135
or
G.Skill Ripjaws X F3-17000CL9D-8GBXM
$129

The first one (XH) has lower timings of 7-8-7-24 but only has 1600Mhz frequency.

The second one (XM) has higher timings of 9-11-10-28-2N but has 2133Mhz frequency.

I'm just not sure which to choose. They will be going in an SB build with an ASUS Maximus IV Extreme-Z, i7-2600k, msi GTX 580, Corsair AX850 and Crucial M4 SSD.

I want to do some decent overclocks but I heard that RAM timings have nothing to do with overclocking when using the new SB processors. In fact, the articles and posts I read said It's not even related to the RAM at all! So, I'm a bit confused now.

I'd also like to know whether I will notice any difference in speed between the 1600Mhz and the 2133Mhz. I won't benching much, it at all but will most likely run the WEI (if that can count as a benchmark).

Any help would be appreciated,
Jaidyn

the 2nd one because its cheaper and the higher speed makes up for the lack of tighter timings

Timings do next to nothing on SB, higher speed the better.

Okay, but if price didn't matter? Will I actually notice any speed difference?

So it's as simple as that?

In synthetic benchmarks you will. In everyday use nope. But i would get the higher speed memory. It will help you out in the longer run. And the ripjaws are the best ram you can get for Sb right now.

Don't cheat yourself, treat yourself!

...Remember, ring bus frequency = DDR3 speed on this platform (hence why 32M favors higher freqeuncy memory multipliers)
in regards to 1155 and memory performance (generally speaking in regards to benchmarks such as sp 32m) and consequently in regards to the general behavior of ram on 1155 as a whole

I've tested tons of ram... unless you can get cas 5... higher frequency is usually always better in everything
