How to Overclock a Phenom II 1055t x6

post #1 of 13
Thread Starter
I am a newb when it comes to overclocking, so i was wondering if i can overclock my amd phenom Ii x6 1055t (2.8 Ghz) on my Gigabyte GA-880GM-UD2H with a custom cooler (its an air cooler, but it keeps my cpu around 25 idle and 40 under stress). i am only looking to OC to about 3.2-3.4 Ghz, does anyone know if this is possible/stable on this motherboard? and if so, what do i modify? this will be my first OC, so any info whatsoever will help me. pc specs are right below. thanks in advance!

You will need to cool your VRMs on that board for overclocking:

Your boar has a poor power phase design, i wouldn't oc that phenom in that board, it's kind of risky, although you're not aiming for a too high oc.

2nd spreadsheet, you'll need to press gigabyte right below AM3 and on the right side of Asus wink.gif

ok, well after about an hour of reading up all that, a few BIOS modifications and an hour of prime95 testing, i decided to stay at a 3010 Mhz OC. .2 Ghz may not be much, but i don't feel safe going any higher on this motherboard. i think i upped the modifier from 200 to 215, and near the end of prime95 my temps were about 52 C for my processor, gpu and HDDs were at 40 (probably not really related but w/e) and my "temp 1/2/3" was 40 C, 60 C and 61 C. hopefully these are reasonable temps for an hour of 100% cpu usage, and i hope they never get this high during gaming. prime 95 reported SelfTest1024Passed=1
SelfTest8Passed=1
i am not going to test any further today, just going to run it for 6-8 hours tonight. (prime95, that is)
i am going to do some gaming/normal day to day comp using (IE web browsing ect) and i am pretty sure everything is stable. if anyone has any input as to what i should do/look for from here on out, im all ears

Gaming won't stress much your cpu as prime does. Those temps are pretty safe. smile.gif

The older design on this board is known for problems. With an x6, I don't recommend going anywhere.
