Muskin Blackline good for i5-2500K?

Thread Starter
Saving up for a rig, however aria has the Blackline on sale for the weeked.

8Gb 1600MHz DDr3 for 36 pounds.

Link for the modules
This seems dirt cheap for a 1600MHz 8 gig set.

I don't know much about memory though, so I am a wondering how these would perform with an i5-2500K, which I would plan to overclock to around 4.5-4.6 GHz?

Also is it worth getting now, bearing in mind the rig fund is quite a way from completion atm frown.gif
Read somewhere that RAM prices are on the rise, which is mainly why I am asking

Thanks

Honestly I'd say wait for a better price on the Redlines like I did, but the Blacklines are almost as amazing as the reds...

Go for it and don't skip a beat. Mushkin is the best RAM money can buy.

Thanks for the heads up guys

Didn't know much about Mushkin but its good to hear they are solid.
I was planning to pay this much for a 4gb set of ripjaws (in my budget).

Just want to confirm if they will work okay with an i5-2500k that's been overclocked

Thanks again for the quick replies (+ rep)

EDIT - Seems the Redlines are more than double the price of the Blackline here in the Uk, so I doubt they will drop anytime soon.

The RAM doesnt really affect the overclocking of the CPU, well that's from what I have seen. You'll be fine, it's pretty much the same set's as the gskill or corsair 1600 mhz 1.5v kits, good enough for everday usage. Have a little read at this and it may help you decide and understand what's important when choosing RAM for sandybridge: http://www.overclock.net/intel-memory/1085715-overclocking-choosing-ram-sandybridge-h67-p67.html

Hope that helps thumb.gif

Those sticks will work just fine. You can use DDR3-1066 and it'll work fine. Although I've seen noticeable increases in 3DMark11 with up to 1866 and 2133 sticks, but for the price, those 1600's will do nicely.

Who knows, maybe those sticks will do 1866 @ 9-10-9-24 even. smile.gif

And yes, Mushkin makes excellent RAM. So does GSkill, Kingston, and Corsair. Just pick whatever fits your budget. Obviously higher speed RAM is better.

Thanks for that guide munaim1

Cleared up quite a few things.

I decided to hold off on buying the RAM until I buy all the components and get the best ones in my budget then (still a way away smile.gif )
Who knows RAM prices might drop further biggrin.gif

Thanks for all your help guys
