Much mis-information in this thread. I suggest you visit Classicplatforms.com where they specialize in the older platforms.
Weren't the first Athlon 64's the ones that really outperformed P4's?

I thought I remembered reading that Althlon XP's were slightly faster than P4's clock-for-clock, but it was the 64's that really blew them out of the water. Until C2D's came out.

It's been a few years since my last Althlon XP rig, so my history could probably use some brushing up.

Thanks Mr. Scott for that info on the 3300+ Sempy. That's one chip I don't have but I do have a 3000+ Sempy and it does OK but doesn't like going too high on the bus.

Yes, the 462's will spank a P4 due to the P4's blatant inefficiency. Have a P4 or two here and between the two socket types a P4 simply can't touch what a good 462 is capable of in a straight up MHz to MHz fight.
Even the P4's with a higher MHz still fall behind - That's the biggest reason AMD during that time literally PWN'ed Intel and Socket A was the preferred setup during that time.
