Why do people like WoW? - Page 3

To be honest I enjoy playing wow. I have played it off and on since December of the first release. Though how I got there in the first place had nothing to do with marketing and Warcraft 3.

I was one of the gamer's that never finished Warcraft 2. I never played Starcraft except at lan parties. Heck I never really even played the Diablo series.

The reason for this was until 2000 I never had anything except Dial Up internet where i lived. I did however play a lot of the Neverwinter Nights. Never tried Ultima Online or Everquest either. But while playing NN we got broadband and I discovered the persistent worlds there. I started to play on a server regularly mostly alone at first. I was called World of Amon. There would be 20 to 30 people on this server at a time and started to group with people. Then WOW dropped. This caused some of the player relationships I had made to leave to play WOW. Second that with one of my employees talking me into playing WOW I ended up purchasing the vanilla box and playing just a few weeks after the game released.

I found a lot of the people from World of Amon in Neverwinter Nights were playing on a server and had moved their guild House Ironclad over. I submitted a request to join and they invited me to their guild. I started to play with them and enjoy the game. Mostly though I enjoyed the comradeship we had.

At this point House Ironclad who started with 15 to 20 people coming over from Neverwinter Nights has absorbed a couple of other guilds and contracted some folks who were not enjoyable to be around. We had one major rule on world of amon and this rule came from the top. A fellow whos handle was simply Ren. Ren was the guy who programed 90% of the content on world of amon. His one rule for the server was be fun or be gone. House Ironclad kept that rule when we moved. We have always stated we are not the most uber leet finish ever part of the world guild and if that is what you are looking for look elsewhere cause we don't want you in our guild anyway.

After playing games with these people in my guild for over 9 years now I can say we have seen other mmo's come and go. We have seen major grind it out Raid guilds come and go. We have even played other MMO's and games together. We are planning to play TOR together. But the one constant since it dropped into the world for everyone has been wow. Just like Friday, Saturday and Sunday is for football in the fall we keep coming back to it.

Opinions, bro.

Same deal as Music and Food. Some people like certain things, if they like it enough then they'll pay more for it.

Personally leveling is horrid, i despise it. End-game though is where the fun is, especially if you are in a guild that is competing for US/World-Firsts.

Going out to eat at a crappy restaurant by your self isn't fun, but going with friends makes it better.

Unless your anti-social??//??

Same reason why going to the mall is suddenly kickass when you have friend. Any experience is a much better time around people you enjoy.

I played maple story for several years because of friends and family who also played. We'd talk about life, have rivalries and competitions, and just find ways to laugh it up while playing. I'm talking about laughing at derps, winning ks wars, and making jokes about fails and class mechanics.

I now play vindictus. Personally, I'd be going back LoL or SC2, if not for the fact that playing with a friend does make the game better. We don't always talk about the game.

Ultima Online, now that was a riot. Was soo much fun, and grief at the same time. You die, you lose everything on you. And you can be killed in so many horrible ways, I should know........ loved it.

That's it.
Unfortunately this is the main reason why the majority of long term players remain in the game. I say unfortunate because people should play the game for the game itself otherwise it doesn't say much about the game. All the while veterans login every odd day to repeat the same thing they were doing the previous day/week.

I don't dislike WoW, I just find it hard to see quality in the repetitive gameplay - not just WoW but a large majority of MMO's out there. I have few friends that have played wow on and off for the last 5 years. They even admit that the content ingame has become a little dry and they are passing time 'till GW2 or SWTOR comes out, and that they'll try it out with most of their guild friends. Once again showing that people just stick with what their friends play regardless if its good or not.

People act as if there is some voodoo going on that they have to try and understand about this. Some people like it, some people don't. Just like every other game in the entire world. If you don't like it, don't sweat it! Not everyone is the same.
