internet connection problems with laptop

Hey guys,

So I will try to make this as precise and concise as possible. My girlfriend is having problems with her internet connection on her laptop.

Usually I would go straight to her router and then things were solved.. but this time it is not the router nor the modem.

The big catch is that she lives with two roommates in an apartment on our college campus. Both of the roommates don't have any problems but my gf does.

To make matters worse... she even tried disabling her wireless adapter and connecting the laptop directly into the modem.. and still her internet cut out every 1-5 minutes.

I know for a fact it has nothing to do with the router or modem, so that information is irrelevant.. I know she has a HP dv7 laptop... and another thing: she has had problems (ever since she bought her laptop) with a combination or her windows media player, youtube.com and skype. I thought he had something to do with java but I don't have enough knowledge to diagnose anything..

Please help?

I'm pretty technologically savvy, and i study information systems in college.. My biggest question is why would this happen? How can connecting via LAN cable still have your internet drop? I've NEVER had that problem in my life....

Step 2 would be to run malware bytes to see if anything is screwing with her system.

I will definitely look into that, thank you. Do you have any diagnosis for the problems with my gf's youtube.com, windows media player and skype problem? Or is that possibly malware as well?

not sure about that but run malware bytes and if that does not fix anything let me know and I'll try to help
