Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3R rev 1.0 vs Rev 1.3

Thread Starter
I just purchased a Z68XP-UD3R Rev 1.0 2 months ago and just today I saw a rev1.3 on the Gigabyte website where the only difference between the two boards was a "Native Gen 3.0 PCIe support". Have I just lost out on PCIe 3.0 support ? And is 2.0 and 3.0 pin compatible or something like that ? For the Rev 1.3 the specs currently list it as 2.0, so I assume the upgrade will be made via a bios update ? I just wanted to know if my mobo too could make the jump in the future !

No, no, you haven't lost anything.

PCIe 3.0 is a future specification that won't be available for at least 6 months.

You see, for PCIe 3.0 bandwidth to be realized, you'd need a new CPU, an Ivy Bridge CPU.

Even then, current information sugguests that PCIe 3.0 slots will be limited to x8, which is equivalent to x16.

Not to mention that you'd need a HD 7990 card to be held back by PCIe 2.0 x8.

So, no, I think it's more of a gimmick and I wouldn't mind it if I were you
