6870x2 vs 560ti OC? 600W PSU with i5-760 - Page 4

Thread Starter
Actually I already have a GTX560ti in the mail, it's a MSI Hawk. I looked at a lot of benchmarks but the 6950 2GB didn't seem to be all THAT better and was over 50 euros more. The 6950 wasn't really ever into play (honestly, it could just well be because all benchmarks on BC2 run with 4 or 8xAA, which I can already easily reach with my GTX460 768MB), so they don't tell me the framerate I would get with a more expensive card with the resolution and quality I'd want.

Since I'd have to upgrade my PSU it seems the 6870s aren't quite for now. The 460 lasted me a year so I'm hoping the 560 does too. This is Luxembourg by the way, there's not much second hand market at all, if any... but such is la vie

Jesus, that's insane.

I mean, sure, if you could click a GTS 250 to 1Ghz, it could be as good as a GTX 260.. I just didn't think it's possible.
KFA2 560 Ti: 954 MHz max
MSI 560 Ti Hawk: 1029 MHz max
ECS 560 Ti: 978 MHz max
Nvidia 560 Ti reference: 980 MHz max
Gigabyte 560 Ti SOC: 1044 MHz max

The average of those is 997 MHz which is very close to 1 GHz.

That is on the level of an HD 6950 (I got mine for 180$).

No, I cannot say that with certainty, but the GTX 560 Ti would have to clock around 1Ghz to beat an overclock HD 6950 unlocked.
See above. Most 560 Tis WILL clock to around 1 GHz, and the better versions such as the MSI Hawk (which OP bought) will easily exceed 1 GHz.

And comparing eBay prices is just a bad practice IMO unless OP stated they wanted to buy from eBay. Most people want a new graphics card with warranty when they buy it...

I can run my Ti at 1Ghz and it's stable. I just dont like fan noise and heat cause I have an HTPC case with minimal airflow. When I need the boost, I run it at 970. It's a tolerable noise/heat/performance tradeoff for the Asus DCII cooler (100% fans on any GPU kinda sucks as far as noise).

Most of the time I just run it at 900 though. It its plenty powerful in BF3 beta for my resolution and a little AA. I just turn HBAO off cause it does kill performance (17-19 fps hit.. usually drops me into the 47-50 fps range).

Wow, you guys just blew my mind.

I always thought "Nah, no way could they overclock that GF114 core that high if it's already 800Mhz on stock", since my GTX 460 GF104 core would overheat way below that.

Well, it's an interesting turn-out, but I guess the GTX 560 Ti is a good choice.

Regardless, I think it's always best to buy off eBay. I got two GTX 480s for 200$ and one HD 6950 for 180$. All work flawlessly.
