Hard drives booting up speed

Thread Starter
I have 4 f3 1TB 2 640GB wd blacks, none of them are in raid, when I use them I have to wait for the drive to boot up from idle (I hear the spinning sound from them) sometimes it gets quite annoying.

What are some pros and con about this? and can I speed up the boot time without raiding?

Pros and cons about what exactly? The spinning sound?

If you don't want your hdds to idle, you can set that option in power options, found in control panel, but I don't see a reason not to enable it.

If i were you I'd set up a raid 2 of the 640gb blacks, and use the 4 f3s in a raid 5.

If you really want performance you could always set the 4 f3's in raid 0, but a 4tb system disk would be a little overkill.

ahh I guess there is nothing that can be done, It might be a good idea to have hard drives on idle since I don't shutdown my computer very often, I don't really need hard drive performance either since if I raid it would be annoying when it comes to formatting.

thanks for the info bud.
