Oh no! Not another Corsair H50 temps thread! Update: I got some MX2

Hey guys. Sorry for annoying some of you but this question was something that has been keeping me up partially throughout the nights since I got my H50 a few months ago. Anyways, I have a Corsair H50 cooling my i7 950. At stock, the idle is around 34*-38* and the load is around 67*. I just overclocked the i7 950 to 4Ghz with 1.35v and I'm getting the idle temps at 36*-40* but the load temps go up to 72* within a minute of Prime95, so I'm guessing my load is going to be around 80* in 10 minutes. I tried reseating my H50 with some old AS5 and the temps are the same. I'm using the fan that corsair provided. Should I get a better fan, get better TIM, cut the fan grill from where my H50 is (My H50 is intake). So my question is are my temps abnormal and what can I do to lower them?

EDIT: Oh and my computer is right next to my window and its around 65*F outside so its pretty chilly.

Update: Holy Cow!!!!! I just reseated my H50 with some MX2 and I flipped it so that the reservoir is upside down. My idle temps are at around 30* and my load temps @ 3.6 ghz with stock voltage is not going above 55*. I LOVE MY H50!!!!! Time for 4 gigahertz 24/7!

are you using as intake?

right now, my i5 is at stock/idle 26C...3 degrees cooler than usual, due primarily to the huge decrease in ambient temps in NY.

I replaced my h50 fan w/ a gt ap15 a while back and noticed a drop of around 3 degrees. I have another ap15 lying around here somewhere that i was going to use in a push/pull config but my temps are fine w/o it for right now.

Your temps aren't "that" bad, but yes, there is a few things you could do, as you self mentioned:

Get a push pull config of the fans, using 2 screws on either fan is enough to keep it in place, remove the fan grill to improve air flow if you like, but as long as both fans are on each side of the radiator and then mounted inside the case it won't change the temps even a little (especially if you've set the fans to exhaust).

Just so we're clear - the corsair fan is horrible, pushes decent amount of air but is noisy as hell to make up for that. Get two gentle typhoons/noctua/scythe fans or something, and you'll probably see a decent temp change smile.gif

Honestly I think you getting the expected performance out of the H50, based on where my temps are at 3.8ghz I think I would be hitting the 70's at 4ghz too but here's some idea's for you:

- Might want to try adding a 2nd 120mm Fan (push/pull setup).
- Might want to try adding a fan shroud (or two).

My H50 hits the 70's in less than a minute of prime 95. I ran it again just now and one of my cores flew up to 76* and that was under 2 minutes. If I let P95 run for 10 minutes my temps would be in the mid 80's. At 3.6Ghz my temps would cap at 72*. I lowered my OC back to 3.6Ghz just now but I still cant believe that my H50 won't let me get a OC that a lot of other users are getting with their H50's.

temperature jumps faster after 3.6 its your vcore. if you search my statistics for threads ive started you willl see one with screen captions of my temps at different OCs
actually heres the thread:

Thanks. I guess that 4Ghz@ 1.35v is a little too much for my H50 frown.gif I lowered it to stock volts @ 3.6, my temps don't go over 70*. I still feel that's a little high but that probably due to the corsair fan and the TIM that I have on it.

EDIT: after 5 minutes of 95, my hottest core is 71 frown.gif

when running prime 95 your temps will jump fast. but they should stabilize around 10 min. 71 isnt too bad but i would definitely say you need some better tim and to reseat your h50 and a push pull config with aftermarket fans would help
