Source.

but Frostbite2 in this poll.

IDtech3 and Source are the best engines IMHO.

Voted UE3 even though most of the games on it are really consolized, and don't push the engine at all.

I still love the Source engine, Portal 2 only confirming that!

The fact that it can look only a bit worse than more modern engines, yet be massively more optimised and power-frugal is very satisfying. Also the clean look of the Valve games is very nice. Unreal 3 is similar to the Source engine in this respect, however I don't like the end look of nearly all Unreal 3 engined games so much, the visual style (discounting developer art direction) never looks quite how I like (due to the engine itself).

From the list though, I think Cryengine 3 has the most potential and is probably the best engine. Looking at the effects and features possible with the engine it seems at the front, even if Crysis 2 didn't implement them as well as possible.

Imagine Crysis 2's effects/post processing etc, but with great textures and art design. Now that will be a graphically excellent game.

Will wait on the full release of BF3 for judgement on Frostbite 2.

Voted frostbite 2 because their engine is designed around immersion, and the best way to do that is through convincibility.
The sounds are realistic and the quality is excellent. The animations are smooth and feel correct. The lighting is real and exciting. With their vast landscapes and dense, detailed cities, the sense of scale is just outstanding. All these fundamental qualities wrapped up in the new micro and macro destruction mechanics make frostbite 2 the most convincing engine showcased to date.

iW 3 engine.

Loljk

Seriously though, Frostbite 2. I don't like the clunkiness of Unreal, and Source just feels weird. The others I do not have experience with.
