Modding is good. It keeps a game and its fanbase alive. Banning mods is only a negative to the game and community.
excato, Good examples would be like MW2 and blackops.

This sucks that ppl dont know about them hack servers. They should have just send everyone a message first so that way ppl will know.

I wonder how the finish product will be. I mean I enjoyed them 64players server in BF2.

And i totally agree, but when people say they're not buying for exactly those reasons then the fanboys come out with their usual insults on how you're so stupid for not buying b/c of those same reasons.

I'm really Unimpressed with the beta...
it runs like butter, the tessellation is "ok"
but when I played metro it felt alot like I was playing a COD game
more fast paced gameplay, dolphin diving, even the unlock/rank system

You'd be banned for the sheer audacity of thinking EA doesn't own your soul.

Nope, that's just fine.
You can't even use Origin unless you agree to never be part of a class action suit against them.

One person's cheat is another's mod. Also, if all parties involved agree on certain "cheats" what's the problem?

If EA allowed people to run their own, non-pure, servers where people could do as they like with the came they own a license to, I would be much more sympathetic with them banning people from the pure servers on a whim.

You applaud them for only allowing their game to be used only on their narrow terms, while they still charge you full price for it.

Their rules are absurd and most people who would actually give EA money are fools.

Agree....Still remember the non-sense Razer article. Just for the sake of playing this game until the end, i will not cancel my pre-order, i will buy the game and i will install all the bullcrap and whatever comes with it. See who wins, EA/(Dice).

I challenge you !

Same goes for using the PSN now too.....will be PS3 be ditched by the masses? Of course not. Same thing will be happening here, people will bleat and moan but will still buy BF3, meaning you will be using Origin.

Expect it to be in every EULA from now. I bet when its added to the Steam EULA no one mentions it.

I don't see this as fair to ban people. Not everyone reads news/forums.
In my opinion, EA would like to limit the life of BF3. Hence they would rather leave the servers open and set an example for those join them, to discourage current and future modding attempts.

Yes, and look at the life of many Valve games. Even CS 1.6 is actively played today, to a degree. It has a bunch of modded servers.

Good point. However from what I recall a class-action lawsuit would bar you accessing your current games. Therefore I think only banned users would participate in one.

I have a feeling Battlefield 3 will be a very short lived experience compared to the previous games. People will either fall back to the previous games that allowed modding or just drop the Battlefield franchise all together. TL;DR: EA is treating their community like dirt, the community will most likely reciprocate.
Very much agreed. Modders do wonderful things to increase the life and fun of games. While I hope that BF3 has a long and enjoyable lifespan, I do see your point. Even though BF2 onwards had no official support for modding, community-created mods do exist, and didn't receive this response (as far as I know). Its not the lack of modding tools, its this new attitude to modded servers that has me concerned. I'm sure there will be repercussions. I believe that EA's primary motive here is to establish Origin and have regular customers (instead of a huge bunch of people buying BF3 and then just not buying anything else), and one way they seem to be using to achieve that is to condemn modded servers.

In my opinion, EA's motivations behind their extreme disapproval of modded servers are directly for their own benefit (i.e., limit life of BF3 in order to encourage more frequent purchases from Origin). Any benefit you see to yourself is probably unintentional .

And people wonder why so few gamers trust EA...
Yup, it does look like an overreaction. Potential account bans that block you from accessing ALL of the games you paid for. Fair enough. I personally have pre-ordered, and I hope its great. I think EA is totally justified in looking to make Origin a more widely known/used/cash source platform. I just think they're going about in the entirely wrong way (i.e., at the expense of their own customers).

This is why I'm really not looking forward to purchasing bf3 on origin. All my friends are on Steam and are more than likely to buy MW3 only since they have had issues with Origin and EA in the past. As much as I liked BFBC2 the big thing was playing with them after work/school.
