AMD 955C3 overclocked 4ghz...now what?

Thread Starter
Hi everybody,

I am new to this forum, but recently overclocked my cpu to 4ghz at 1.475 volts, dram at 1.65 and nb at 1.3. My temps are idle 29c and under load 54c. Black edition overclock 20/200=4,000ghz.

I am wondering where I can go from here. ANy suggestions on how to lower temps even more to reach a higher overclock? what is the max temp for this cpu (site says 62 but is that right?)?

Thanks

Welcome to ocn!!

What about watercooling?

62c is the max yes, you should stay below 58 IMO.

Now you get your NB to 2.8-3GHz

A better cooler would help.

Does increasing the Northbridge frequency raise the temp of the cpu or the other way around?

Yeah water cooling would be good...Ill check out NCIX and see what kind of deals they have...Thanks guys.

Next step is having a custom loop for CPU. It will lower temps a lot. and not keep the hot air in the case at same time.

If you are on a budget, look at the XSPC Rasa RS240 kit, $120-140 shipped for a full loop with a 240 rad is a great deal. With that, you could probably up it to 1.5-1.525v and get about 4.1-4.2 stable. Not all 955s can get over 4Ghz, so what you already have is probably near the limit.

Now you need to test for stability, min 12hrs Prime95

Insure you are looking at the right temps under load, and keep "Core Temp" under 62C or 60C for extended periods.
