It's a beta, people should give instead constructive criticizm and point flaws in the game. Whining will not solve anything....
apparently people dont like to be teased with the caspian border map and having to play the metro map. I for one am awfully grateful that I have the opportunity to participate in the BETA!! Grated their are some bugs but isn't that what we are supposed to report to make the game play better when it does get released??

I hate all the whiners!!!

A month isn't that far off in the development process. If you believe the game will be 100% fixed by ship date, then keep believing although I doubt it considering their track record with other battlefields.

I like that MOST of the posters on this thread seem to understand the basic path of development.
Perhaps this is why game devs no longer release a polished product at the get-go, because if they don't charge for the beta, people will cancel orders because of the issues existent in the BETA...
If you want a more polished product, complaining that they aren't giving you the map you want to play test isn't the way to go about it.

An Open Beta is a two-way street. It's nice because it's free to play, and the only reason it's free is because its only function is to help the developers. Demanding a certain map or feature in the open beta is no different from spamming the message boards saying you want the game for free. That's not the purpose.

It's a shame though that he mostly only sees the whiners. For every whiner, there's gotta be at least 50 other people happily playtesting the beta and appreciating all the parts that work well, while realizing that the obvious bugs are reported and will be fixed.

In my opinion, the real "1.0" of bf3 won't be until the 2nd maybe 3rd patch, even if it is 1.2 or 1.3...

Good for this guy. His remarks are completely justified.
Coming from battlefield p4f, where the maps in the full game are extremely limited, I'm content with what I'm getting in this single BETA map.

I actually loved metro =), as a battlefield 1942 player back in the day, I really can't complain what they offered in the beta besides the glitches here and there.
I have mixed views about this.

No one should be complaining about what maps they're testing that's dice's decision. For a map that's already been through alpha(which felt more like a closed beta), the game still needs a lot of polish if it's being released in 23 days. I think a lot of people were expecting to play a demo, but it feels like a beta that came less then a month before release.

I also feel like dice kind of did this to themselves. There's been way too much unnecessary hype and tension and marketing and dare is say delay around this beta. I'm just saying that some of the user reactions are somewhat justified, based on how the beta is being treated by dice\\EA. Like announcing that the beta is ready just waiting for approval on sony/microsoft, literraly got the whole community in an uproar. Was it really necessary? definitely not.

Most of you have sympathy for this community manager ?

I would fire him immediately!

By doing what he did he left his professionalism behind and just went down to the level of those he is criticizing.

EA and DICE are businesses, they are supposed to satisfy customers, and by customers I mean future customers also. What he did is compromising that. Under no circumstances should a company representative lose his mind like that.

He is not even coherent:

Quote:
"the beta is a privilege, not a right," unless you got a key with a pre-order

And let's face it: an open Beta is a huge opportunity for the developer to have FREE bug reports, performance statistics, suggestions etc, before the game goes out to the general public.

And he has the nerve to call it a privilege ? This is a business, and as such benefits go both ways. He is talking as if the developer is not benefiting one iota from this open Beta. Not to mention some of those 1.5 million pre-orders are also playing it, no ?

Go talk to Microsoft and understand the success of Windows 7 and how they gained respect for making available the Beta and then the Release Candidate, both of which were quite stable.

And you guys show sympathy for this guy ? Some of you are even saying "yes, even previous Battlefield games had bugs on launch day, but there's nothing like it."

Please, stop. Unless you like to be free guinea pigs and be insulted in the end.

Oh, and by the way, this whole paragraph was NOT written by the community manager, but by the Kotaku writer:

Quote:
It is indeed hard not to be sympathetic. These games are not made by elves. We've heard plenty about "crunch" at the end of a development cycle, I'm sure the last thing anyone wants to deal with, amidst all of that, is inconsiderate sniping and snide questions from some entitled dickbag who is unhappy that the free thing he's being given isn't optimized for his comfort.

Ohm and by the way, this whole paragraph was NOT written by the community manager, but by the Kotaku writer:
+1

Beta is NOT a privilege for us, they get to test their game out across all type of systems and get feedback to optimize their game so that on release date they don't give us a crappy bug-full game.

If we don't participate in beta its their loss not ours, so it does not make it a privilege at all.
