ATI equivalent to GTX 580 now or future?

Thread Starter
I recently purchased the new Samsung series 9 monitor that offers tridef 3D support. Now they offer two modes, one which is frame sequential (aimed towards ATI cards) and the other being side by side (nvidia). Now I am using a GTX 580 and it is simply amazing, but I want to get the best the 3D has to offer with frame sequential. Which ATI card is equivalent to the GTX 580, and if they are none now that can really 100% compete or perform better, which card should I be looking out for in the future?

I heard that this is a good card but is not 100% on par with the GTX 580. For instance the 6970 struggles with some tesselation processing and when put up toe to toe with the GTX 580, the 580 comes out ahead. I am looking for something that is 100% on par or better. Do you think the 6970 is REALLY on par? From what I hear the 6970 is more comparable to the GTX 570.

6970 is the top tier single GPU card from AMD at the moment. I don't quite understand why you are at the ready to toss a 580...
I was going to say the 6990 but thought that was closer to the GTX 590.

There is currently no single or dual-GPU card (including 6990) from AMD that will beat a GTX 580 in every application at every configuration/resolution. If you can narrow it down to a specific usage, perhaps the 6970 or 6990 will outperform for that usage. But not for every scenario.

If it has to outperform a GTX 580 in all scenarios, you'll need to look at Crossfire or wait for the 7 series.
