For the boints to count towards the team total you must be highest on your team. 8800 GT might provide 50 points but if some from Overclock.net is sitting third in the rankings then you will have to be 1st or 2nd to increase the team points any.

A list showing the highest points with NO Overclock.net members in the category would be even better.
All hardware submissions count something toward the team total just at a 1/10 rate. If you score 10 pts and this is not a top team score, the team still gets a 1 pt increase.

That is true, but I think if the OP was thinking of buying some new hardware to boint with and generate some points for the team, shooting for hardware with 50 point 1st place will generate you 5. You have to be top of a huge field of overclockers to boot. Even if you hit mid-field on a hardware no one has submitted for Overclock.net you will generate more than 5 points on the list of GPUs that no one has put up scores for.

But as you and others have said, every bench does count towards the total and worth it no matter what.
