Wattage question

Thread Starter
When we say a SB chip is 95w of heat, how do you translate that in time. Is that 95w per minute or hour?

Reason I'm asking is I'm gonna go ahead with my RogBox (upcoming project) and the Koolance plate heat exhangers are rated 4.0 kW (13,600 BTU/hr).

I've calculated about 900w max for my whole system, is that per hour?

Thanks!

Ok so that's not heat... uhhg.

That still doesn't answer the question however. To make it simpler, would that HPX be enough to exhange all the computers heat?

I don't know anything about Plate Heat Exchangers but reading the specs a 20ºC delta between inlet and outlet is really bad for a watercooled PC and the materials aren't exactly perfect either, I mean stainless steel?. Is this supposed to be used for a non-industrial application?

Stainless steel can be mixed with nickel and copper, steel can't.

More for a window heat exchanger.

Edit: 20C delta is for the inlet and outlet of the same side or of either side?

what radiator will you be using with that koolance plate heat exchanger? The heat exchanger that you're talking about transfers the heat from 1 loop to another loop. If you could give the details of the setup it would greatly assist us in helping you.

1 Watt = 1 Joule per second = 0.0009478 BTU per second. It's a simple matter of unit conversion to figure out the rest.

If you calculated 900W peak power usage, and the heat exchanger is rated for 4kW of heat dissipation, then you'll be fine. 4kW = 4000W, which is more than 4x what you need. You should be in pretty good shape. What are you going to use to cool the second loop?

Outside rad will be a GT Stealth 240 (30FPI) with two Treibwerk fans and one D5 pump (space limitation for the rad).

Outdoor temps will range from 0 to -35 celcius.

It'll cool 3 GTX 580's, a cpu mobo block and ram. I'm thinking I'll need two HPX, maybe three.

Edit: hrmm, one will bo ok?

Oh, I forgot you were the guy in super-north Canadia. I think the temperature difference will be sufficient for a GTS 240. A GTS 360 is only like $9 more and with that large temperature difference, you'll definitely be able to dissipate a lot of heat. I think the 360 would actually be a bit much given those temperatures. Will this be run during the summer? And if so, is the 0°C the "summer" temperature?

The 20ºC delta is between the inlets of the 2 loops. He'll have a delta of 20-55ºC between the 2 loops, at least at system start-up.

I would actually be worried about condensation with those external temperatures cooling the loop. Make sure you put antifreeze in your external loop so things don't freeze up when the computer isn't running. I would recommend having a second radiator inside and have quick disconnects so you can quickly switch between the external cooling loop and the internal loop if temperatures got too low or you just want to supplement the heating in your room.
