Also, why skip straight to the 580? Its not all that much better then the 570, and costs a lot more. You gain about 10% for 33% more money. You can get a refurb 570 for $200-250, and a new one for about $300 or less if you keep an eye out.

Here, do some reading on SSD's and educate yourself:

http://www.overclock.net/ssd/675580-...ce-ssds-2.html
http://www.overclock.net/ssd/803440-ssd-questions.html
http://www.overclock.net/ssd/920728-...nce-start.html
http://www.overclock.net/ssd/893859-...-question.html

If you really think a (maximum of) 5% performance decrease due to the drive being filled is worth spending more money on, then I don't really know what to say. The vast majority of people using SSD's as boot drives have 30-64GB drives, and there's a reason for that. Follow some of the optimizing threads on OCN and your SSD will still be blazing fast (god forbid I didn't pay another $150 bucks for 1% performance increase).

As for the 580, there are several reasons to go with it instead of the 570, especially if you can fit in your budget:
- Better VRM's than 570 = higher OC capability
- More VRAM: BF3 exceeds the 570's 1.2GB
- 384 bus width compared to 320

Is the 570 better performance for your dollar? Sure. Is it as good as the 580? No. There have been used 580's selling for $310-$350 on OCN Marketplace - can't beat that.

Well I'll keep my eye out for the 580 in the marketplace as I'm not buying my parts yet!
I'm sticking with this card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127604

Or should I get the 2GB card?

My build costed me a solid 1500 and it's very similar to what you have in mind. The phantom is great by the way. Chilly and sexy. The only problem is the SSD. If you already have a monitor or some ram or anything, I would recycle them until you get some bank.

I can tell you, BF3 runs at 50 fps at 1200p on ultra settings and I'm slightly overclocked. That is great performance.

I think you are asuming that because I just joined here that Im a noob. I am not, I just never got around to joining here, and just did recently to see what it was like.

Ive had a ton of first hand expierance with many different SSDs. Ive seen performance degredation up to 45% on 60Gb drives with ~30GB left on them. Maybe you should be the one to read up more on them, and how they work. Or buy a few and try some testing yourself?

And just because BF3 "can" used X amount of ram, doesnt mean it has too. Its like Windows, if you have 8GB installed, it will keep a larger amount set aside then if you had 4GB or 2GB. BF3 can be maxed out with a 1GB card at 1080P, and be more then playable. A 570 can max out any game out at 1080P and be playable, so if he doesnt have the money to pay for a 580, why try to force him?

Yea I wish I would have a monitor and everything, but truth is I've been using an Asus G60VX laptop for the past 1.5 year haha..
So I have never owned a desktop yet

I'm not assuming you're a noob, but you're stating figures about SSD's that would scare anyone away from buying them. You must have had drives with terrible controllers because I have never seen proof of degradation that bad from someone who didn't have a faulty drive.

As for the GPU, you are trying to convince him to get something that will barely last another year. He has plenty of room in his budget for a better GPU, so why settle for less? He specifically stated that this rig's main focus was gaming, and as such GPU isn't something to skimp on. Why would he get the 1GB 6950 instead of paying an extra ~$30 more for the 2GB version? I'm not "forcing" anyone to get a 580 - the original list of parts I linked had the 6950 2GB. I merely suggested that if he wanted a bump in GPU performance that he would be fine to sacrifice elsewhere to get a 580.

With these types of threads it's all about getting the best bang for your buck. Your suggestions aren't exactly in line with the budget and primary goal for his rig.
