Ive had a ton of first hand expierance with many different SSDs. Ive seen performance degredation up to 45% on 60Gb drives with ~30GB left on them.
And just because BF3 "can" used X amount of ram, doesnt mean it has too. Its like Windows, if you have 8GB installed, it will keep a larger amount set aside then if you had 4GB or 2GB. BF3 can be maxed out with a 1GB card at 1080P, and be more then playable. A 570 can max out any game out at 1080P and be playable, so if he doesnt have the money to pay for a 580, why try to force him?
I'm not assuming you're a noob, but you're stating figures about SSD's that would scare anyone away from buying them. You must have had drives with terrible controllers because I have never seen proof of degradation that bad from someone who didn't have a faulty drive.
As for the GPU, you are trying to convince him to get something that will barely last another year. He has plenty of room in his budget for a better GPU, so why settle for less? He specifically stated that this rig's main focus was gaming, and as such GPU isn't something to skimp on. Why would he get the 1GB 6950 instead of paying an extra ~$30 more for the 2GB version? I'm not "forcing" anyone to get a 580 - the original list of parts I linked had the 6950 2GB. I merely suggested that if he wanted a bump in GPU performance that he would be fine to sacrifice elsewhere to get a 580.
With these types of threads it's all about getting the best bang for your buck. Your suggestions aren't exactly in line with the budget and primary goal for his rig.
