Need help - Gaming Build - Page 7

No one knows the future, but right now 4 cores is overkill, and HT really isnt that usefull. Remember the i7 is still a quad core. HT usually adds enough heat that you can run ~200Mhz higher with HT off, which makes it faster then with HT on and 200Mhz less.

Im on my third 2500K so far, just cant beat the bang for buck they offer. I still wouldnt sink $200 in to a mid range platform mobo though. You are getting a descrete graphics card so there isnt much point in the Z68 for you. The P67s are cheaper. I was lucky and got my Z68 from someone for $130, other wise I would have something else.

Alright so yea I think this build will be focused on gaming now and I can still even do other things outside of gaming even with an i5.

So is all I have to do is change the i7 to an i5 and everything will still be compatible? Or should I start a whole new list to be fresh and sure?

I really thing you should get the 212 EVO or 212+ and save some money on your cooler, that you can put into RAM. My computer runs very quietly on that and it's very good for Sandybridge.

COOLER: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835103099 EVO $35

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231431
Tighter timings, works at rated speeds (I own this product). $120

I see no one has recommended a soundcard. I have the Asus Essence STX and can recommend it highly but basically it seems any soundcard is out of your budget with your current build.

It will be fine if you just change your cpu from i7-2600k to i5-2500k

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115072 $220

EDIT: However I don't think you need such a high-end motherboard.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128498 should be fine

http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...omparison.html is a good thread with lots of information and comparisons between motherboards for you

The thread isnt getting crowded when its still on topic of offering you suggestions. No one has hijacked it or anything. No need for another thread on the same thing.

I have the Hyper 212+, and while its good bang for the buck, the H60 is significantly better in every way.

I second that Gigabyte board as well, there is a combo discount for it with the CPU.

If you save on other parts, why not go for a 24 inch monitor - at least; for example, View Sonic 27 inch, 3ms resp time, DVI for $270.

Also, you might get Free Shipping deals on Amazon
Check for inputs (HDMI, for ex) to fit the GPU output; LED etc.

I spent a little over a grand for this build, which can play any game out (that Ive tried) with highest settings at 1080P aside from Metro 2033.
2500k c batch
MSI z68a-gd80 g3
2x2gb gskill ripjaws x 1600 7-8-7-20 1.5v
Sapphire 6870 dirt3 edition
Corsair hx850 PSU
Corsair h60
Corsair force ft 120gb
Wd 640gb black sata3 raid0
4 Samsung f4 2tb
Coolermaster storm trooper case with blue led sickleflows

Shop around a little, and look for used if you want to save some cash.
