Overclocking HD 5850 question(s)

Thread Starter
My fan recently gave out out on my 5850, so I ended up buying an aftermarket cooler. I went with the Zalman 3000A, and it's doing really well so far. After a few days of testing for stability and tweaking stuff I've got it overclocked to 1010/1200/1.2v. I have it set up to go back to default clocks when I'm not gaming so it decreases the clocks, meaning I idle at around 33-34C. Under full load it only gets up to about 54-56C max. This is all without even really turning the fan up as well. My question is, how much further can I push it? In the tutorial I ran through it said not to push the voltage beyond 1.25, so I just wanted to know how risky it would be to pass that. I'd also like to know what the maximum of maximum settings people have gotten with it. It just seemed like nobody else has asked these questions anywhere I've looked. Thanks in advance.

Some people have pushed them to 1.4v but with stock cooler do not go over 1.3, 5850 should max ~ 1050Mhz core.

hope that helps ya

So 1.3-1.4 would be okay then? I just don't want to damage my card. Thx for the info though, helps a lot actually, although all these guys seem to be on the stock cooler with much higher temps than me. I'll push it up to 1.3 and maybe a bit more here in a bit and see how it goes.

Well voltage is more dangerous then temps but yeah i would stick with the 1.3 your not gonna squeeze much more out of it anyway anything over the 1ghz should be plenty .
