Benefit to cooling backside of GPU?

I'm curious to see what others think about this. I have just installed a Galaxy GTX 460 1GB. Then changed out TIM for AS5. I don't have an aftermarket GPU cooler yet, but does anyone see benefit in putting a stilted fan on the backside (top, in my case) of the GPU blowing directly on it? I touched my hand to the back of the card and it gets pretty hot (Afterburner sez 55C idle). So cooling both sides of the PCB should help in theory right.

It helps, but only by about 1-2c unless you have very bad airflow in your case.

I just got a CM HAF 912 and I'm still messing with the flow. 3 days and 15 setups later... still having fun. Seeing zipties in my sleep, though :\\

Looks like you were right, a Thermaltake Volcano 60x25mm ~5000rpm fan 1CM off the surface of the card centered on the 4 screws brought GPU temp down exactly 2c. Now if I were shopping for new cooling and the choice was an 'x' reduction in temp or an 'x-2' reduction at no charge, I would want that 2c. But in this case it's not really worth the noise. I may try with a larger, quieter fan. I think I've got a few stashed away at work.
