Overclocked to 3.8Ghz, pretty high temps.

Thread Starter
Hey everyone, so I decided to overclock my processor, slowly going up at each time. I've reached a decent overclock of 3.8Ghz @ 1.425v. This is on a Phenom II 965BE C3. Once I start running prime95, my temperature in Speedfan is hovering around 58-59C. I feel that it is way too high, or is this normal? I am using a Coolitsystems Eco 120 CPU water cooler, with a fan pushing air through the rad, to the outside of the case.

Any suggestions?!

V core seems a bit high for 3.8.

i would say the temps are about right.

that cooler is decent.. but not the best.

i would say either grab a better pair of 2X 120MM fan's for push/pull and some better thermal grease.

this will yield some improvement.

and (if possible) drop Vcore a bit

my old 955 C2 did 3.9GHZ at 1.55V with a CNPS9000A Zalman at 56C

Gotcha, will do that. Now, what kind of vCore should I be expecting at a clock like this? Because the stock vCore was 1.400, so I only bumped it up .025v.

Yeah, I noticed that too, I looked around to get a C3 specifically for the better overclocking ability, and my stock vCore is 1.400v

I'm going to see what I can do, maybe try to maintain the 3.8Ghz at stock voltage...Any other suggestions?

Just a hint. try to get high NB speed rather then clock speed.

go for 3GHZ NB and 3,8GHZ core clock and your golden.

I will try that. I just realized my motherboard has the option to subtract vCore. I reduced the vCore to 1.375v and keep the clock the same, it's running, so I'm going to test the stability. Thanks for the help so far.
