sli 460, or buy 6950

the big road block for me SLI is my motherboard doesnt support it
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128421

im so tired of getting bad performance overclocking my gtx 460. in many cases its actually made me stutter in games more....

i would sli if i could since thats the cheapest and thats what im looking for BUT im also trying to get the most performance for later use. i know that i want to buy a second monitor and eventually a 3rd thats why eyefinity is sounding better. but i have a 3rd option. wait. i can deal with this 460 for a good 6 months before i burn it lol. by then will prices for things drop, will new cards boast more power for less consumption? i just dont know which path to go down a 570 is like 330 bucks while look at this beauty

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102951&Tpk=6950%20toxic

my absolute fav part is just unlocking that to a 6970. potentially saving u at least 200 bucks. crossfire another one down the road and boom. the only thing stopping me is that a 560ti and 570 just perform better with intel and teselation. lol so yea thats a lot of questions for now. thanks OCN

in my opinion save on the GPU for now, and work on another mobo/CPU. the toxic is a good card, when you can find one. newegg will get a shipment of them in and be sold out before 12 hours of having it in stock. if you want budget performance get a couple of used 6870s, you can find them for under $100 each on ebay. same go for 2 6850s and 5870s.

and 460 768 sli still trumps a 6950.

woaa a 6870 in xfire is for sure the best fps for money wise. if anyone can confirm if i can crossfire the cards on my board posted in the OP i would really appreciate it. if it does im selling my gtx460 and getting 2 of those lmao but that would really be future proof. a 6950 unlocked to 6970 and then crossfire THAT would def be better in the long term wouldnt it? the reason i like that idea cuz it compares with a gtx570 that costs 350 saving me 100 on the first card and 100 on the second

Do you even play the game that those FPS/$ are based on? Because that isn't the case for all games you know, the 570 gives better FPS/$ than the 6950 or 6970 in BF3 beta. About halfway down the page.

Well, you can xfire your cards just not SLI.

IMO, with you're motherboard, I would prefer running a single card instead as it would run in x16/x4 mode(just like mine).

Avoid the 6870s if you can, the 68xx series cards don't exactly have the best drivers for them. Also running 2 "lower" end cards can sometimes cause you to get micro stutter whereas one more powerful card will not run into that issue as it typically has more vRAM

What you should do is get a better motherboard, an MSI P55 GD65 is pretty cheap and does SLI and CF, and is a decent overclocker, and then OC your CPU. In a lot of games you will get a substantial performance increase and then you can either choose to SLI or get something else (personally I would SLI). Is your GTX 460 the 768MB or 1GB version?

There is nothing wrong with 6800 drivers, they are the same as the 6900 series afaik.

The GTX 460 is not a lower-end card, its a mid-range card, and it is apparent in all multi-card configurations. Sure a single card has almost none, but it will not offer such good value. And microstutter isnt in every game, its more apparent in some and less in others, and if you have vsync for example, it will be less "noticeable".

gigabyte gtx460 1 gb is what i have. i would run it in sli if my stupid board would allow it but it wont. someone in another thread also had a good point. i dont want to run into a dead end. so instead of running 6850 in CF that would be a dead end since cant upgrade past that he suggested i do 6950 and when time comes CF that. there is no nvidia conterpart to a 6950 unlocked to 6970 for that performance is there...

my cpu is OC to 3.8 and made bf3 very playable at almost ultra settings but my resolution is like 720p right now.. once i get an 1920x1080 i will probablly be screwed lol which is why i want the card first. really dont want to buy another motherboard and have to redo the whole cpu mounting and everything lol but if anyone had a super budget upgrade idea id def be up for it
