i5 2500k build

Thread Starter
I was looking at AMD 955BE edition, but I do not want another half ass build. My sig has my current components. My pc died tonight and I have a MicroCenter close by so I plan on buying most of my stuff there. I have been research AMD for so long I'm total clueless when it comes to intel.

MOBO -?? I don't think I'll ever have more than one video card, unless I need one for some reason but I play games(popular ones BF3, Metro 2033, SC2...) and lite photo editing. I need pci spots for wireless. I want USB 3.0 and something for an easy upgrade for the next intel processor.
CPU - i5 2500k
RAM - ?????
SSD - Crucial 128gb m4
Cooler - ???? I want to overclock, I was looking at the CM Hyper 212+ for my AMD build, and want to stay around the $30 dollar range.

I have a ATI 6770, 750W corsair psu, and a nice case. I'm assuming my Gpu should be able to work with my intel build.

MOBO - P8P67 is pretty standard, but Asus has poor customer service recently.
I am using a Gigabyte mobo, and upgraded to 2 PCI-e x8 slots just incase.
Almost all boards are going to have usb3.0 and extra pci-e x1 slots.

CPU - i5 2500k
RAM - any 1.5v 1600 ram. cas9. dont need anything too pretty, and i would stay away from RAM with tall heat spreaders because they WILL interfere with a Hyper 212+ and most coolers. I would go (2x4gb) 8GB because the price is very reasonable and you will be running ram intensive editing software.

SSD - Crucial 128gb m4 - Good choice

Cooler - Hyper 212+ for that price range. there is also a Hyper 212 Evo coming out, if you wanted to search if it's available yet. good enough for near 4.5ghz on air.

an i5-2500k will be able to run all current gpus, with no chance of bottleneck.
Your 6770 will be compatable. Your corsair PSU is a good power supply, and you have nothing to worry about.

Good start I reccomend the asrock extreme 4 gen3 for motherboard. Its a good overclocker and least amount of issues ive seen it has 3 slots for video cards
and since u said u dont wanna half ass i would spend the money on a good mobo for future proofing and ovwerclocking

for ram any ddr 3 1333+ will do 1.5-1.65

also yeah the 212+ is great

Motherboard:
Asus P8Z68-V Pro

If you add both that and the i5-2500k to cart, you get $40 off.

Based on reviews and whatnot, you should be able to hit 4.5Ghz easily on that mobo w/ cm 212+

This motherboard also has tons of room for whatever you need, so even if the CM212+ covers a ram slot or 2, you'll have 2 others leftover.

As for RAM, yeah go for anything that has 1.5V and 1600Mhz
I recommend these: Corsair Vengeance 8GB at $70 (60 after rebate)

with this coupon:
20% off ram

Asus P8P67/Z68 Pro has my thumbs up for the MoBo. Also, the Hyper212+ can easily take you to 4.5Ghz (could get 4.8 as well) with the 2500k.

RAM: as "I am a Noob" said, any 8GB DDR3 1600 <1.5V kit works fine. G. Skill Ripjaw and Corsair Vengeance are the most popular and run ~$50 for a 8GB kit. Can't go wrong with either brand, just pick what's on sale.

MOBO - Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3
RAM - Vengeance Series 8GB DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800) CL9

I heard a lot of good things about Gigabyte. I had an Asus board for 5+ years and she's still kicking and AMD sempron. But I'm willing to try something new.

The Asus MOBO I recommend is much better for overclocking and even with auto-overclock you should hit 4.5 (some have reported booting first time w/ 4.5Ghz)

don't discount an AMD build..they're due for a new processor release very soon..
you could build an amd platform and put money aside for the new cpu (when released) ::groan::
it'd go something like this..
AsRock 990fx extreme4 gen3 or
Asus Crosshair V or
Asus 990fx Sabertooth
cpu--placeholder to play with until bulldozer release athlon II x3-4...callisto..rana.phenom2 X2 555 black..
RAM ..higher frequency is always better if you go sandy bridge you'll need the "low-volt" stuff i use team xtreem ddr3 2000. Bulldozer will also support higher-freq RAM..so get at least 1866..if not 2133..somewhere in there

Intel
AsRock z68 extreme4/fatality...
RAM team xtreem ddr3-2000 or 2133
