You know what's funny though, I am willing to bet if someone made a thread entitled "to all the naysayers who say you need more than 6 GB of RAM" it wouldn't get trolled.

So quick°n°dirty before it gets closed:
http://www.overclock.net/amd-memory/...l#post13676816
Posted this 5 month ago. And with only 58 processes (5 of them are After Effects related).
Here is a nother one:
http://www.overclock.net/intel-memor...l#post13649131
Also from around 5 month ago. I didn`t want to add the attachment here but 17.8GB with 17% CPU usage.

And no one needs more 4GB for gaming. (But who asked that )

As you said, it depends...

Anwyays..

Oh also RAM is so cheap now so why not you know. Lol.
Most of these people are building a computer for the first time and have 12-24gb of ram. They have grown up with the illusion that more ram = faster computer.

Recommending someone RAM without knowing what they're primarily looking to use their system for isn't really smart, anyway. Having up to 8 / 12 GBs of RAM is great, just be sure that person is actually going to be using close to that amount.

Haters gon' hate?

I do agree though, its usually silly to recommend X amount of memory without knowing what the user will do with their machine. But 8GB honestly is a pretty decent "sweet spot", even for gaming. No, no games will USE more than 4GB right now, but it doesn't hurt to have that extra bit there for future uses.

Usually if somebody needs more RAM though, they'll already know it anyway.

^ this , agree 8gb feels a lot better than 4gb for 24/7 and lets stop kidding yourself guys we use PC's for more than just gaming ,why is everyone so stubborn about "all you need is 4gb.." it's like saying ..all you need is one stick to boot your PC ,ram is so cheap it's almost free, get as much as you want if it's to much just use half..lol

EDIT; here is nice article

Eh, I installed 8 gigs for my gaming PCs and 16 for my work rigs. My gaming PC rarely goes over 5 gigs of usage and my work PC hovers around 8-12gigs used. But I am a multi tasking fool. Most people do not come close to 4gigs usage "yet". I am combining the two PCs together soon so my rig will be doing both. Maybe I will see a full 16 gig usage for once!! Now, if I can only figure out how to play video games while being productive....
