1x 200MM case fan or 4x 120MM case fans?

Hi Guys,

I would like to know what you all recommend as far as the optimal case fan arrangement would be for my tower.

I can either buy a Xigmatek 200MM case fan which has a rating of 76CFM, or 4 littler guys that do 63CFM each.

What would give me more air flow over all, as I know CFM stands for Cubic Feet per Minute, and given the smaller one's are roughly 11% less CFM, 4 of these puppies would make a lot more of an effect I'm thinking.

Can you all tell me what you think.

Price is no concern, and neither is noise as I'll have a Kaze Q8 fan controller but I'm not sure whether the CFM rating is in proportion to the fan size or whether it is irrelevant to size of fan and just a plain rating of total throughout of air.

Let me know chaps.

Here are links to the fans I want to get. I already have 3 120mm xigmatek's and 1 140mm in my Coolermaster HAF 932 Advanced.

One XLF-F2003 = 76 CFM
Four XLF-F1253 = 244 CFM

With a 221% difference, the choice seems rather obvious.

depends on your application. what are you trying to cool down? there is no reason to go crazy on fans if you are cooling down a 1 watt atom processor:D on the other hand if you are going for quad SLi and OCing your x58 rig, then cut a hole in your side panel and get both:D

4 120mm fans. If one goes out, you have three. Two go out, two left. There's a pattern a single 200mm can't follow biggrin.gif Besides, you can get four different colored fans and make your case trippy.

if cost and noise are no object, then I think you should be looking at getting 4 of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835706015
or:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835213001

or:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835213010

Use the fan controller to slow em down a bit smile.gif

4 of some of those would be nearly 1000CFM on full "blast" (pun intended).

Wow, never knew there were case fans that are 250CFM for a 120mm jobbie!!

I'm in Australia so NewEgg doesn't help me as they don't ship here frown.gif.

I will definitely get 4 120MM fan's thought and see what I can find for a good balance between noise and performance.

My current PC is something I upgraded pretty much everything except my Phenom II 965BE C3 which runs @ 4.0GHz at the moment. Still waiting for the Bulldozers! smile.gif

the cm megaflow 200mm fan has 110cfm - very quiet but only 700 rpm
the nzxt fn 200rb with 200mm has 166cfm - louder (2000rpm) if you wish to get a better cooling

in my opinion the better choice than 4x120mm

In truth, there is nothing wrong with going either way. It just depends on what your cooling needs are. Those fans I linked to as a sort of "joke" would be very loud when run at full speed but will move more air that you can shake a hard drive at. psyclum's response regarding the proper name plate, is not far from the truth, it will sound like you have a small aircraft engine operating in your room.
