i would say a used GTX 460 1GB(not the se) is an incredibly good card(consumes very little power, has Physx and very powerful card)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/EVGA-NVIDIA-...item27bed911fe

HD 6850 is also a pretty good deal

as for the headset, the so called "gaming headsets" are crap interms of sound quality
http://www.head-fi.org/t/433318/shoo...s-added-9-4-11

i suggest he get a proper headset, something like a Sony MDR-V6 for $65 which is an extremely good bargain(though you need to get a separate microphone)

or a Sony MDR-ZX700 for $88 is also a very good deal

Wow!

Okay then. I would chose a 450 and OC it. (poss stretch to a 460). For your friend, who doesn't sound like an OC'er, the 550Ti.

...and now we see why I recommended the superior 550 Ti.

The HP original shipped with a dedicated GPU; although it's certainly not the highest quality unit by any means, it's wholly sufficient for powering a modern low-end card.

The Sennhesier PC151 would make a superb choice, and fits well within your $100 budget.
