Can't Install or Uninstall Nvidia Drivers

Thread Starter
Greetings folks,

I recently built a new PC with these specs:

i5 2500k
GTX 570
8GB DDR3
64GB SSD for OS (Windows 7)

Anyway, I currently have a problem trying to update my GPU drivers--I can't do it. I am currently running the 280.26 drivers and I have no problems actually playing games, but when it comes to uninstalling or installing new ones, I get a bunch of dll-related errors.

This is an image of the most common one that occurs when I try to install the newer drivers (or even the same drivers again) over the old ones:

Here is an album I made with all the errors I have gotten trying to install or uninstall Nvidia drivers: http://imgur.com/a/ERLSU.

I don't know what to do...I suspect the SSD might just be borked and there is corruption going on (not the first time-I've already ordered another one that should be more reliable). Can't play the BF3 beta because I can't install newer drivers...frown.gif

Does anyone have any suggestions or solutions? Couldn't really find any relevant information on Google. Thank you in advance.

restart computer and spam F8 restart in safe mode with no networking and uninstall them then restart and install the new ones! then restart and game on!

You may have to use the heavy-duty Driver Sweeper. If a regular uninstall in safe mode won't do the trick, just use this to clean out everything.

you could try driver sweeper to get rid of current driver then try installing new ones. I would hate for you to get current ones uninstalled and then be unable to install new ones though. I suppose you could always re-install windows as it seems like you may have some registry errors with the dll errors.

I tried uninstalling through the control panel in safe mode, but I just got the same appcrash/dll errors.

I'm a bit worried about brute force manually deleting all the driver-related files, because I feel like even if I do that I am still going to get the same errors when I run the installer...you know? I just don't understand how driver sweeper will change the scenario.

At least right now I can still play games with the current drivers that are installed...

I always use driver sweeper to remove my old drivers before I install new ones. Try it and see if it fixes your issue.

Edited: Oops, was thinking AMD for some reason.

1. Uninstall everything via custom uninstall (not express) from C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver and whatever's there, or from the downloaded Nvidia drivers. Don't reboot.
2. Uninstall all Nvidia programs from Control Panel. Don't reboot.
3. Use Driver Sweeper to uninstall anything Nvidia. Now reboot.
4. Important! Disconnect your ethernet so you don't automatically install any drivers. Log into Windows.
5. Uninstall any Nvidia programs left from Control Panel. Reboot. You can connect your ethernet back.
6. Install Nvidia drivers.

Do you forego the Control Panel Add/Remove list completely and only use driver sweeper?

I feel like my problem is a little more severe than just manually deleting and updating...I can't even find any information on "UpdateExt.dll".

If you haven't looked at the album I posted in the OP, I'll make it clearer here: I get errors even trying to uninstall from the control panel. As in, I can't complete that step because the uninstaller fails.. T.T

I read that and I'm wondering why the instructions for uninstalling NVIDIA drivers are the equivalent of seven midterms; It never seemed that difficult.

1. Safe mode
2. Attempt uninstall of drivers
3. Driver Sweeper
4. Install new drivers
