Custom fanspeed profile

Thread Starter
Ok so what Im looking to do is create a custom fanspeed profile for the PWM output on my cpu cooler. Right now Ive got the pwm signal from the cpu fan header sent up to my Rheosmart 6 fan controller. It is working great but I dont really like the built in fanspeed profile.

I am using a gigabyte ga-a75m-ud2h motherboard based on the AMD hudson chipset for socket FM1.

I have looked over the bios and I cant find any settings for this other than enable/disable cool n quiet, and cpu fan control method(auto/voltage/pwm). I did try to use speedfan but either I dont know how to use it properly(likely) or it is not changing the signal to the motherboard. When I try adjusting cpu fan speed it just keeps spinning at whatever speed the default profile has been telling it to. It does ramp up and down based on system load but not the way I would like it to.

What I want to do is set a 2 or 3 stage speed profile. CPU temp < 25c == 20% fanspeed, CPU temp < 35 == 50% fanspeed, and CPU temp > 35c == 70% fanspeed. Ok so what do I need to do to make this happen?

Note: I am willing to use cpu load based fanspeed control but as ive noticed with the current setup that tends to be a bit jumpy, ie opening a new program causes the fans to spin up high for 2-5 seconds then they slow back down.
Note2: I am not interested in altering the fan controller in any way to do this, I simply want to control the signal that windows/motherboard is sending to it.

+1 on Speedfan, the new fan speed control is brilliant. Not the easiest program to get to grips with but it is powerful.

^^Yup, but once you get the hang with it, it becomes a nice must-have program.

I have heard of some BIOS hacks that can allow for fan speed control either there in the BIOS, or in windows for the motherboards which previously did not allow for it. But I will be going for a full-on switching system for my next build. Much like this one:

It can control 30w fans too.

My RheoSmart can run 6 30w devices from a sinlge PWM signal thats pretty respectable IMO. Plus the styling matched my wifes case perfectly.

Thats a pretty cool controler you posted though I could see myself using it if I had somthing looking like a GT level 10 or a HAF-X
