1GB DCUII 6950 Overclocking

Thread Starter
Okay guys, just put this together (see sig).

I can't overclock the CPU yet because I'm waiting to get a cooler, (they had no 212+ in stock and nothing else besides a DH14 and I only want it to last me a few months till I start water cooling biggrin.gif).

So I want to Overclock the graphics card, it comes stock at 810Mhz, I know the 6950 can get pretty high clocks but I'm not looking to have too much noise or brick my card seeking 1Ghz or anything. Just wondering what software I can use with this card and how high I should take it?

Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

I was thinking either that or Trixx. Do you know if the software that comes with ASUS cards as standard is any good?

If all those didn't work, the only option left is Asus Smart Doctor. Afterburner doesn't support some non reference design from MSI competitors.

Thats pretty lame :/

This is the DCUII so there is a high chance that is the case.

I heard you can'y tweak voltage in the ASUS suite, or you can but it changes it automatically to a ridiculously high voltage without user approval. Seems a shame to only be able to get this card to 850 or something because I can't up the volts from 1.1 at all :/

At first I used MSI AB but found it to be unreliable(it would loose or reset my profiles) so I used the following method to edit the Catalyst registry(http://www.techimo.com/forum/graphics-cards-displays/256789-enable-higher-overclocks-ccc-reg-entry.html) to go beyond its stock overclock limits. I am not messing with Voltage(not worth it IMO). My card hits a wall above 910/1350 so I keep it at 910/1325.

Wow that sounds fairly involved.. I know you can tweak voltage and overclock higher than 840Mhz on programs like Trixx and maybe MSI AB so why is it necessary to use this registry mod? I'm getting mixed messages from around the place, it seems ASUS SD isn't very good and can't OC very high. It also sounds like alot of people are having troubles tweaking things on these ASUS cards..

I thought it would be just installing a third party app and sliding the bar, stress testing, rinse and repeat till I was happy. :/

It's really not too bad. There's actually a tool somebody made to automate the process:

http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=41022&d=1299711550

...which is linked in the third and fourth posts of that TechIMO thread. smile.gif

I saw that, didn't know if they guy was legit but I tried his link and it asked for a registration so I bailed. I now see the amended link smile.gif

So I should just download that file from Techpowerup or wherever it was hosted.. Then what?

Cheers for your help btw smile.gif
