Is the 2560mb 570 better? - Page 2

Thread Starter
So stick with the one I have. Would it be worth going with a second one for sli. How big of an improvement would I see in BF3. right now it runs pretty well, but in caspian border I had some pretty low drops down into the 20's. They are saying that the tessellation isn't even turned on for the beta, and that the settings are not as high as they can be, but who really knows. I would really like to be able to max that game out or at least come close to it.

It sounds like I will just wait for the next gen cards to go triple screen. It will probably be toward the middle of next year before I get a chance to do it anyway.

I was about to create a thread about this myself. I was planning on getting 570 SLI 1280mb but after my gtx 460 768mb mistake I wanted to be sure the vram wouldn't be an issue. That being said, the EVGA 2560mb 570 costs almost as much as a gtx 580... Is GTX 570 1280 a bad buy right now with the new games using so much ram?

1.25Gb 570 is not a bad buy at all right now. I'd go with either this MSI one (that one used to be easy to find at $315 on Amazon so maybe wait just a bit for price to go back down) or this Asus one (that one is still at a great price of $320 with a good game for free).

Let me find where I just posted that the 570 gives a better FPS/$ at ultra than either the 6950 or 6970 in BF3 beta. A moderate OC on a 570 should have no troubles getting perfectly smooth gameplay in BF3, the beta at least which IMO should be representative of the retail game.

EDIT: Here it is. About halfway down the page. That whole article should give you a good impression that the 570 once OC'd is perfectly capable of smoothly playing BF3 beta maxed out.

IF you wanted to run 5760 x 1080 you would be a fool to buy a standard 570. You'd really want the 2.5GB cards for that, though at that price you could get the added performance of the 580.

Really the golden cards for 5760 x 1080 would be the 6970s with their 2GB and for those whom prefer nVidia (and got I should have never left them) the 3GB 580s.

This US$250 MSI GTX560 Ti Twin Frozr II OC 2GB probably beats every GTX570 1.3GB out there, C/P ratio wise.

I'll summarize.

GTX 570 - Great performance, decent amount of RAM. Is it a problem? No. You're not going to see frames dip because of it.

GTX 560 Ti - Good performance, low amount of RAM, unless you get the 2GB edition.

HD 6950 - Great performance, great amount of RAM.

Regardless of your choice, get it used. You can find all of the above for 160-240$ on eBay in great condition.
