i7 2600 OC - VCore locked

Thread Starter
@SORRY, i have the i7 2600K, not the 2600.

Hey guys.
I have a i7 2600k @ 3.4 stock with a Gigabyte Z68X-UD3-B3.
I bought the Corsair H60 cooler today, since my CPU was getting really hot when tried increasing the multiplier a little bit.
The thing is, from what i heard, i can reach 4.0 without messing with the Vcore (am i right?) but i want to go a little higher, aiming for a maximum of 4.5 GHz.
I have to increase Vcore a little, right?
The thing is, when i change it and save the settings, when i come back to the BIOS screen, the value is still the same.
It`s ALWAYS at 1.248v, at least this is the value i see in the main screen, along with my multiplier value and DRAM Voltage value.

I tried increasing it to 1.26, 1.27, but no results.

Tried increasing the multiplier to 4.5 and the vcore to 1.27, but since it always comes back to the original value of 1.248 i got BSOD.

Any ideas here to change the vcore amount?

Thanks!

your vcore needs to be in a range of 1.35 to 1.4 or more for 4.5ghz. the reason your bios reads lower then what your setting it @ is because you probably didnt disable the ce states.
use LLC
try level 5 to keep the voltage more or less constant

Set Cpu Vcore setting to manual first. Seems that you may be in Offset mode. If you are in offset mode you would be looking to set offset to + and use like 0.050v. That will add 0.050v to your 1.248v so you will have 1.298v

You have no idea what his chip would need for 4.5ghz. 1.400v would be a high start for 4.5ghz IMO. Look on the sandy stable club, someone just hit 5.4ghz with a 2600k HT on @ 1.435v.

He will have to test to find what he needs.

Oh, so you think this value is not the real value?
I mean, the values available to set are amounts to ADD to my 1.248?
So, i'll try adding low values to get around 1.26 or 1.27, and see what happens.
Do i really need to disable C1E?

I'll try that now!

@EDIT

I can see that that`s not the case, since the values start around 0.800V, so it couldn't be anything else than the real vcore value.

So, this is weird.
I put the vcore on 1.27, and now it started it's saying on bios screen 1.26.
now i changed it to 1.28, now it says 1.272.

Is that ok?

No you dont need to disable c1e if you dont want to. I suggest keeping your vcore at stock value and just turning on llc. That should be enough to maintain a stable 4.5ghz overclock. If its not try turning llc up, and if that fails try increasing your vcore a notch or two at a time, stress testing with prime 95 (blend) in between for stability.

But on most 2600ks you can hit 4.5ghz easy with stock voltage with llc turned on. May have to be turn to high, or level 2, whatever your board calls it. good luck.

depending on his Gigabyte bios version he has 10 levels of llc. level 2 would be equivalent of llc 3-5

if you dont have the 3 levels of LLC in your bios:

1-2 ~ LLC Level 1
3-6 ~ LLC Level 2
7-10 ~ LLC Level 3 EXTREME

Ok, well at least you know your not in offset mode. Yes that is normal to see a different value than what your setting. It is because of LLC. I use the highest setting of LLC on my board/setup but don't recommend for everyone. I would start in the middle with LLC and test some.

Sorry if I sounded a little rude there, didn't mean to. That's was just a high starting point for a 4.5ghz. I've never needed more than 1.375v for any of the 2600k builds I've done and that's for 4.8ghz where I normally clock them for others. I would look more towards 1.275v-1.300v for 4.5ghz at most prolly.
