Haha. I feel your pain. Getting your question answered is like trying to draw blood from a stone sometimes.

I would go with the 6970 for the same reasons mentioned by Arinoth. Plus you can always crossfire later.

The 100$ off makes the 5970 a great buy, although I would go with the 6970. Really it depends on what you choose, which seems to be the 6970 since it's in your sig.

A 5970 will destroy a single 6970. The argument should be 5970 vs 6990.

Well even if the 5970 is a more powerful card than a single 6970, you will have the option to crossfire it, and the 6000 serie scales very well with it. Also, as you said, these are the remaining stock so it will be very hard to find another one in the future.

5870 : more raw power, single card option
6970 : scalable, cheaper(and will drop after the release of 7000 serie soon), enought power for now (single monitor)

Thread Starter
I know the 5970 will pwn the 6970 my question is what is the better buy based on terms of how they respond to games an res. I run @ 1920x1200. If I get the 5970 I won't have the need to xfire in the future I'll just upgrade to a better single card option. If I get the 6970 I will want to xfire in the near future. Also if I get the MSI R6970 I have to buy a new PSU cause the one I currently have (OCZ ModXStream 700W) only has 1x6pin & 1x6+2pin, and the MSI requires 2x8pin. I also prefer a single card of multiple, easier to cool.

Get the 5970.
@toddville I'm in the same boat as you. Actually I am in this boat b/c of you haha, I just started looking at the 5970 from this thread and is looks pretty awesome. I have the same PSU which is why I am thinking of getting this card since I am unsure of the 570's vram right now lol. I need a single GPU option as well but can't justify additional $200 for a 580..

Also keep in mind that the 5970 only has a 30 day warranty....
