58-70 during normal operation wow that's soo hot!! Mine at 4.4Ghz
my idle is sitting at 32-40 and during load I get 82. Try re-applying
TIM and remount the heat sink.

Good lord, the stock cooler doesn't get that hot even at stock. XD

Reseat the cooler.

Hey guys,

Just spent some time reseating the cooler. Reapplied thermal compound and.... boom, nothing! Booted up Battlefield 3 and still got temperatures around 80-88. Keep in mind that my i7-960 is overclocked from 3.20 to 3.60, still, shouldn't be this hot...

What to do!?

Also also, my cooler is: Thermaltake ISGC300. Paid about 50 bucks for it, so I don't see why it doesn't work.

"Un-clocked" my PC back to 3.2 GHz, no difference whatsoever. Idle temp is 55-60. At load it's still 80-92.

Sigh....

I replaced my fancy heatsink with the stock heatsink that was supplied in the intel box. Temperature seems to be around the same. Maybe a 5 degrees difference.

Follow these directions EXACTLY: http://www.arcticsilver.com/pdf/appmeth/int/vl/intel_app_method_vertical_line_v1.1.pdf

Notice the "middle dot" method isn't correct for this processor.

That is exactly what I did. Even with this stock cooler (which has fancy plug-in pins) the temperature is still high.

Ok. then you mite have the cooler mounted wrong. try spinning it 90 degs. get alot of tremal paste (good stuff. mx4, mx3, ocz freeze, icd.) and try a rice grain and turn block on it 15 deg left and right then screw in. i did it work great for me (v8 mega and now waterblocks). Just want enofhg to go even like a thin peace of paper.
