Fantom Drives External - slow / hang boots

Greetings,

About a week ago I got a Fantom Drives 2TB external, GF3B2000U32.

http://store.micronet.com/gf3b2000u32.aspx

Construction is excellent with a rolled aluminum case. Speed via USB 3.0 is a little faster than my internal WD Caviar Greens. It was actually a few bucks cheaper than a 2TB WD so it seemed like a good deal, especially with the aluminum vs plastic case.

I also have an older 250MB WD External USB 2.0 to compare it with. Each are plugged into USB 3.0 ports on my MSI Z68-GD65 (B3).

There are 2 issues with the Fantom:

1) Boot delays. Takes an additional 10 seconds to boot with the Fantom plugged in. Light flashes rapidly for about 10 seconds, then a 'click', the the boot process continues. Very noticeable as I am booting from an SSD. Same delay when going into Disc Management. No such issue with the WD.

2) Random hangs when booting. Same rapid flashing of the light but it never stops and the boot process hangs. No such issue with the WD.

I opened a ticket and the 2 responses I got were:

1) It's only a 10 second delay, don't worry about it.

2) It's an eSATA issue (note this drive is USB 3.0).

Since they were no help here I am. If I can resolve these 2 issues it's a keeper, otherwise I gotta send it back

Any ideas?

tia

ps

Keep in mind the WD has no such issues

** SOLVED **

It was looking for a boot partition. Since it's 2TB it took a bit of time.

My BIOS has a boot sequence and separate boot priorities for HD and USB.

My boot sequence was my SSD only, everything else disabled.

However my USB boot priorites had the Fantom listed. Even though it's not in my boot sequence it still looked at the Fantom at each boot, trying to find a boot partition.

I disabled the Fantom in the USB boot priorities, problem solved.

Hope this helps someone down the road, loving my Fantom and sub 20 second boots
