Raid 0 worth it? - Page 2

Yeah, for music and movies not so much unless you can back them up. For games I would definently want to keep them in Raid-0.
Just grab 2 more drives and go with a raid 10.

Desktop raid user here.

I've used both raid 5 and 10 in my desktop, and 10 is the way to go, unless you're buying a dedicated raid card. The computational overhead used on raid 5 is VERY noticeable with onboard raid chips.

10 you don't notice anything, it's just faster.

I have 3 drives in RAID 0 short stroked to 250 gb
I get a consistent read time of 150 mbps
I am not concerned about data loss as I keep all pic.s and important files on a non raid drive pic.s are also stored on the cloud and DVD disc

sent from my EVO shift

Without repeating much of what everyone else said... I think raid 0 on the other drives when you have a SSD is not worth the risk for the performance gain (assuming you put your most used programs on the SSD). Raid 0 = increasing the risk of storage failure by 2 fold (for the given "drive"). I personally would use the other drives for raid 1 for redundancy.. regardless of configuration.. a backup strategy is a must.

You have to reset the RAID when changing MOBOs, especially if it's different controllers

You will have to rebuild it or you may lose everything.
Use CrystalDiskMark to find your speeds.
