Battlefield 3 recommendation gpu?

Thread Starter
I know there has been so many threads asking what kind of gpu but gotta remember everyone's system is different. However i know the holidays is around the corner. Should i wait? I really don't care for the 600 series but we know it'll be delayed and plus i bet it's gonna be more expensive? However.. if you look at my sig rig.

I'm a battlefield fan and i can play pretty well with LOW shadows and everything on HIGH and i even disabled HBAO and i get good performance. That's just so i can play with faster framerates. I can play well with everything close to high and ultra but it does decrease the framerates. But we know it's just a beta and the final may take a huge toll on most of our video cards.

I have been wanting to get a new monitor but i never bothered to. My warranty is expired on the one i have now. 1080p would be nice someday. I'll make up my mind but i'm ok for now. As for the video card.. well.. after doing research knowing BF3 takes up what.. 1.4gigs of ram? Likely we need a gpu that can handle the game such as 580? Should i get it or just wait it out?

I couldn't even figure out which GTX 580 i want..http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007709%2050001402%20600094002%20600085533&IsNodeId=1&name=GeForce%20GTX%20580%20%28Fermi%29

However i liked the GTX 580 SC but do you think it's not worth it? I don't like overclocking my video cards cuz the new ones make me nervous and they get extremely hot than you think. I have OC'd my 9800gt back in the day with no problem lmao. I'm in a rut between deciding to SLi the system i have but i will have to buy a gtx 460 786mb SC and i don't like the idea of SLi cuz everytime Battlefield has a SLi support we know they have problems like they did back in BF 2 Bad Co. So i'd rather have one card that is UNLESS SLi support is better now in BF3.

560Ti 2gb? or 1gb or 570? Or just go straight for 580?

Sli my gtx 460 or wait the whole thing out?

I have been saving for two months now and i don't wanna wait anymore. Kinda wanna spend it unless i can handle waiting next month since Black Fridays are after Thanksgiving.. What do you think?

I could had made a poll but i will next month.headscratch.gif:D

Go with a 570 and SLI it later (or now).

So far, BF3 (and BC2) seems to scale GREAT with SLI (i.e. no problems at all). A single GTX 570 will give you good perf on high, but dual 570's will give you at least 70-80fps on ultra.

SC cards are generally not worth it, unless you plan on OC'ing more. In general, SC / factory overclocked cards use binned cores (i.e. they cherry pick them), and should increase the likelihood of getting a really good chip. However, if not OC'ing, you can generally get a normal card up to factory OC settings with little or no problems. SC cards arent usually OC'd by very much, so heat wont be a problem at all.

Basically: Get a 570 or two. Its worth it, and there are no problems.

A HD6950 is the best bang for buck and its a fraction faster than the 560ti.

It only takes up that much VRAM if you have everything turned up including AA. The easiest way to decrease VRAM usage is to lower AA. AO is another IQ setting that most people can do without as you have mentioned.

With that said, nobody wants to turn down the settings if they have to. If you want all the eyecandy on you're looking at 560 Ti 2GBs in SLi (or 6950s). A single 580 will not be able to power through 1.4GB of graphics at 60 fps.

If you have the 768 version I would go with a 580/570. If you have the 1GB I would considering waiting for the game to come out to see how much VRAM you're actually using. 460s in SLi equal the performance of a single 580 assuming you're below 1GB VRAM.

nvidia's drivers are better, especially for dual-GPUs.

If you are planning to put a 580 in your budget, I would much rather go for the 2Gb 6970.

It's basically a 2Gb GTX 570 with CFX scaling that matches/sometimes beats 580 SLI. And 2Gb VRam will come in handy over the measly 1.2Gb Vram in games like BF3 which I hit 1.3Gb in the beta.

Or you can save $500 and play it on XBOX at 1080P on a 2 year old system.

Keep those posts coming they actually help my decisions. Love discussions about this. Oh on another note.. i mean NO offense but i don't want any radeon cards at any cost. One day i will try the darkside but i'm staying with my green favorite cards ok? Thanks.

the GTX 560 Ti is tempting. However SLi gtx 460 sounds doable but we both know they stopped making 768mb versions so i'd have to find it elsewhere not Newegg ugh!

Still undecided. I could just get a GTX 570 then buy another one on the holidays?

I need to really research benchmarks. But it's so hard to decide right now cuz the game isn't out and we cannot assume which can be really the best. Remember it could be marketing if they said you need a gtx 580 but after reviewing how everyone had weird framerates and strange differences with the beta makes me think Dice isn't lying. Only can tell when the day it's released someone would post benchmarks.

I wish the GTX 580 would be 100 dollars cheaper lol.

eek.gif HOW DARE YOU!!!!!! tongue.gif

OP just wait until the release of the actual game to see how it differe's from the beta, you'll be in a better position to decide on what to do. I just don't understand how some can look at upgrade paths based on beta games etc.
