I have been told that Sprint will be getting the iPhone 5 — yes the real iPhone 5, not the iPhone 4S — as an exclusive. And it will be a 4G WiMAX device. AT&T and Verizon would launch the iPhone 4S...

dang you. I was just getting ready to post this.

How can this make them profitable? I am with sprint, and dont plan on leaving. But if sprint is paying full price for the phone, what are they going to sell them at? And why would you bank 20 billion for only 3 to 4 month exclusivity?

True.

But there are not enough apple fanboys to amount to 20 billion. This is not android vs apple, this is even if they come in droves for this phone, how do you become profitable? The only thing setting us apart from everyone else is our unlimited plan. can they keep that? will it be a higher price for the iphone?

How can ANY company afford to buy retail phones and resell them for subsidized prices? Because they will make back what they lose and more through monthly usage fees. People will be paying ~$70+/month to use the phone on their network.

Plus the actual service only costs sprint like $0.000002 per text message / phone call. I can see how they could make some money on this deal.

Whoa. Power move from the team in distant third...

Hopefully this pans out for Sprint and we start seeing the three companies really compete with each other.
