[SOLVED] SLI Mode Crashes - Black Screens, Low Resolution, etc.

Thread Starter
I've tried numerous other forums but since I've become so well acquainted with many of you, I thought I'd try and see if anyone here is brilliant enough to help me figure this out.

Long story short, whenever I try to enable SLI or Surround (via Nvidia control panel) on my dual GTX 580s, my three monitors turn black for a second then only my primary monitor returns and the resolution is MUCH bigger than my normal 1980x1080 resolution. The Nvidia drivers crash and I have to do a system restore to get everything back to normal again.

Any ideas as to why I can't enable SLI or Surround although I have ALL of the hardware requirements in check? I keep hearing stuff about something on the P8Z68 mobos need to be enabled or something??? I've had this SLI/Surround enabling issue since my GTX 460s. So it's definitely not any of my hardware.

Rig specs in sig below. Currently running latest BF3 beta drivers from Nvidia. This issue happened with all previous drivers too.

I had a similar issue not to long ago. My ax 1200 was the problem. Woke up one morning and smelled the magic smoke.

Yes. The screens are all the same exact model.

I reformatted my hard drive, reinstalled Windows, and the SLI surround setup worked but then after a restart and trying to enable it again, it gives me the infamous black screen with a blinking cursor. Now the surround won't work again. lol <--- that's a frustrated "lol"

Try older drivers.

I got it all figured out. It was actually the order my DVI connectors were connected into my two 580s. I didn't think the Nvidia stuff was this specific when enabling surround gaming, etc. lol

The problems I was having before I reinstalled Windows was a driver/software conflict with the Nvidia drivers that was preventing me from enabling SLI mode in anything.

To those of you who see this thread and are/had the same issues I was, reinstall Windows, connect your triple displays EXACTLY the way Nvidia tells you to when enabling Surround gaming mode, and do NOT let Windows Update install any optional drivers that relate to your graphics, mobo, etc. Download and install those kinds of drivers yourself from the manufacturers websites.

Probably why the tell you how to plug them in...

Agreed with downloading the drivers from the Nvidia Website
