Agreed with downloading the drivers from the Nvidia Website
It was confusing at first trying to deciper their diagram setup but all is good now and the switch between surround gaming and normal triple monitor desktop settings in the Nvidia control panel are now flawless.

Sorry for so blatently highjacking this thread, but I couldn't find answers anywhere (and I did check the official BF and BF-Bench threads

@ Crash: Would you mind posting some FPS Results somewhere (since you're using the BF3-Drivers, you do play BF3 right?) - I can't find any 5760*1080 results for a setup like yours

- What settings are you able to run fluid?
- 3GB GTX580s?

Thanks!

Guess what. SLI mode is messed up again.

Happened ONLY after doing a Windows Update after my fresh Windows 7 install. So I have now confirmed that one (or more) of the updates that Windows 7 installs after installing a fresh OS is causing the SLI crash. I'm not even talking about the "optional" updates. I'm talking about the critical security and .net updates Windows Update does.

SLI mode works flawlessly if you install your Nvidia drivers right away after a fresh OS install and enable it. As soon as you let Windows start intstalling their "usual" updates and restart your system and then try to enable SLI mode, SLI mode decides to never work again.

I'm reinstalling Windows for the 4th time today. Not sure what I'm going to do about this Windows Update causing Nvidia's SLI mode to crash issue. It's quite surprising that Nvidia, nor the King of the Web (i.e. Google), has any answers to this issue. Plenty of people have it but no fixes are ever mentioned.

Did that earlier (at the recommendation of EVGA). Didn't work.

A file Windows Update is installing is definitely causing a permanent conflict with SLI'ing. Buddy of mine is having the same issue with his 590 right now. Plenty of other folks report the same conditions and symptoms all over the web. Black screen when enabling SLI. Main monitor displaying desktop at the lowest resolution. Nvidia control panel crashes. GTX 580 devices in device manager report Code 43 for hardware failure. Blah blah blah.

It isn't anything hardware. I've concluded that after 3 months of messing with this. And today I definitely pinpointed today that it's one or more files being downloaded in the Windows Update that's messing everything up.

I know Nvidia knows about this. ATI/AMD Radeon cards aren't having any issues like this. Maybe I should switch to the dark side.

I'm still experimenting with my system and trying to pinpoint exactly which file(s) it is in Windows Update that is causing the conflict. I am probably going to download each file one by one and report back with any findings.

Juanchioo, be weary about installing ALL of the files Windows Update reports that you need, even the critical security and .net patches. DO NOT especially download/install anything Nvidia related from Windows Update. Download Nvidia drivers from the Nvidia website and install. Personally, I never install any "optional" updates via Windows Update.

do you have SP1 Installed?

I FIGURED IT ALL OUT!!!!!!!! Yes, I'm proud of myself.

Apparently, a Windows disc given to me by a friend of mine was an illegal copy of Windows. I was not aware of this. I know, I know. Very noobish of me. It should've clicked in my head when he stated that I would have to "enable the Windows activation file." DUH!!!! OCN people, please smack me for my stupidity. *smacks forehead*

After so much trial and error today, I discovered this evening that IMMEDIATELY after this "Windows activation file" was enabled, SLI (and a few other discreet things) stopped working.

There ARE others out there that have the EXACT same symptoms and problems my friend and I were having. You are more than likely running illegal copies of Windows. If so, please download a LEGIT copy of Windows.

After installing a legit copy of Windows tonight, all my SLI woes disappeared and even a few other small things started working again.

LOL on myself but seriously, if anyone out there is having the same problems I had, check your copy of Windows and make sure it's a genuine copy! Those hacked copies of Windows screw around with your registry files so much that it can have conflicts with various amounts of software. Not worth the trouble!

If you're running a legit copy of Windows, you should have NO problems SLI'ing whatsoever. And if you do, it's definitely probably going to be something a manufacturer can help you with.

I'm surprised. I thought Microsoft was a bit more agressive in it's feature disabling of illegal copies.

I wish there was a way to check if a copy is legit without installing though.
Just bought a second hand copy of windows 7 ultimate off amazon for £60 and not quite ready to put my build together.

Yeah I know it's a suspiciously cheap dial but it's worth a punt and a amazon dispute.
