ye i did reset the cpu...now max temps are 84c recorded using realtemp(78c with the top open for ventilation...it goes up a bit when i close the case)... compared to 90c......no crashes.

I dont mind getting another cooler....will this one fit? do i need to take out the motherbourd to fit it?

Thats the problem with thread over 1-2 pages, people go straight to the last page and post. A thread is dynamic, it's like a conversation you need to hear it all to understand and get every bit of information.

Anyway, on the topic, you have few options

1- Stop overclocking
2- Stop/continue overclocking and get a nice HSF
3- Stop/continue overclocking and get a nice HSF and an appropriate case

I prefer continue overclocking in a new case, plus a Hyper 212+ which only cost 25$. But please don't use this stock cooler gunner2.gif [StockCooler].

thanks:)

You will need around 160-165mm of clearance above the CPU to get the 1st one, but the second will fit for sure.

You should really try to find a better case then. 6970's put out a fair amount of heat and by the sounds and looks of your case, it doesn't look like the warm air is circulating out, cable management is also something that you should try. I know it's a pain with a case like that, but it can be better. Getting a better heatsink should be your first step, followed by getting a better case imo.

this ok?

Any decent cooler will require you to remove the motherboard to put a backplate (a least on Intel plateform, since puspins are horrifics).

So while you're at it, why not switch case? wink.gif
