IBM T61 - My brand new (old) laptop.

Thread Starter
I just purchased IBM T61 in mint condition, it came with 9cell battery, dock, two chargers, bland new Hitachi 160GB 7200rpm, ThinkPad mouse and IBM monitor for $300 and I'm really happy with the purchase since I'm a loyal IBM fanboy, since I only use Chrome, Word and Excel, the requirements for the hardware weren't high.

First thing I'm doing is replacing the disk with Crucial M4 128GB, I've installed the disk but after a little research I've noticed many people are installing "hacked" bios to unlock SATA II access, which I find really strange.

Can anyone confirm if this is actually possible?

I had pretty much googled everything, although I must have missed this website. But what I was hoping to hear a was an OCN member experience with this issue.

Although thanks for your input, +rep.

This post(see link below) is exactly what you need. Flash the BIOS, follow the procedure etc. you'll be fine. The guy who posted those BIOS's is a beast, I've used a couple on various Thinkpad/Ideapads without any issue. I actually did use that exact T61 BIOS, but with a 500gb HDD. So there's your firsthand experience
