Weather or not true AI is even possible is debateable. Mearly emulating it to the average Joe is remarkable. Understanding natural language is a very, very hard thing to get a computer to do.

unless you believe in the existence of a "soul" or whatever i can't see why it isn't possible, the only known system to support intelligence is just way too simple and brute-force for current computer systems to handle which doesn't mean more efficient systems aren't capable of thought or that the advancement of computer wont reach the required level some day

It does have the same case design, I'll give you that. However, pretty much everything else in the 4S is significantly better. Even if the RAM is 512MB, it'll be 512MB LPDDR2 instead of 512MB LPDDR, although I'm really hoping for 1GB.

Do you find the iP4 lacks processing power for the stuff it does on a day to day basis at all? I sure don't.

Like I said in another thread...

If all you do on your computer is browse the net and do word processing and you've got a Core2Quad right now, I could offer you an SR-2 12 core Xeon @ 4.6 GHz and yeah, it IS a faster computer...you'll just never notice for what you do with it, it will literally never come into play.

That's what the A4 to A5 is for me and 99.99% of people I know who also have iP4. No one is using the thing to play serious 3D games or any functions that require a better CPU. We take calls, send SMS, check email, browse web, use maps, listen to music, watch videos and view photos.

So yes, if I was doing 3D rendering on my iPhone, the A5 would be a great upgrade. However, since I'm just (and basically everyone else) using the thing for basic functions...the A5 in the iP4S doesn't matter at all.

Once you see it that way, the iP4S truly offers nothing over iP4 except Siri and a slightly improved camera.

I can't even really think of anything they could throw on an iPhone 5 to really tempt me into buying it. Truly can't imagine them adding anything that would ever make it an iP3 -> iP4 situation again.

Your argument is flawed because the A4 is a single-core processor whilst the A5 is a dual-core processor. I'm well aware that you know that, however, you'll notice an OS responds much better to a jump from a single-core to a dual-core than you would a C2Q to 12-cores.

I'd argue otherwise in regard to "serious 3D games" considering how amazing Infinity Blade 2 looked at the Keynote. Just as the second iPad is much snappier than the 4, so too will the 4S be much snappier than the 4. It might not matter to you, but it does to me! I actually have a 3GS, so I'll be benefiting even more from this upgrade.

Siri Is Not Like Android Voice Actions

Android Voice Actions is great technology, and is widely used by many Android fans. But it’s not really in the same class as Siri.

Android Voice Actions offers a very solid and capable voice recognition engine that’s on the high-quality end of the spectrum among the wide range of similar products and services that have been around for awhile.

Like all existing voice-command and dictation products, it requires you to say a relatively narrow range of commands or it won’t understand you.

Siri, on the other hand, will be unlike anything the public has used before. You can say things that technically or literally have nothing to do with what you mean, but Siri will in many cases figure out what you mean based on context, history and and artificial intelligence designed to understand regular human speech.

For example, if you want to set an alarm for your nap, just say “wake me up in 20 minutes.” If you want to know what meetings you have scheduled for later, you can say, “how does the rest of my day look?”

These inputs specifically reference neither the application to be used nor the information desired. Yet Siri understands.

As humans, we take the understanding of such comments for granted. But getting machines to understand such tricky phrases is the Holy Grail of artificial intelligence.

Even more human-like is that once you’ve got a conversation started with Siri, it can understand requests that are even more cryptic. For example, you might ask: “Are there any top-rated Italian restaurants within walking distance?” If Siri replies, “no,” you can say, “how about Mexican?” Siri interprets your input in the context of a conversation about top-rated restaurants within walking distance.

Android Voice Actions can’t do anything like this because it’s voice command software, not artificial intelligence.

Siri sometimes gives you web search results, sometimes takes actions for you and sometimes controls the applications on your iPhone.

But Siri also answers questions, thanks to Wolfram-Alpha integration. You can ask random questions like “how many kilometers in 30 miles?,” “What time is it in Paris?,” “how many octaves on a piano,” or “why is the sky blue?” and Siri will just give you the answer. Not a web page. An answer to your question.

We'll wait and see how it works though.

My argument is not flawed. If the A4 is ample to make the phone do everything it does on a day to day basis, what does it matter even if they were able to synthesize some kind of mobile Xeon 6 core @ 4 GHz?

It's fine that it matters to you. My point is that no one I know (and I know DOZENS with iP4s) is going to care a single shred that the iP4S can play Infinity Blade 2. In fact, past Angry Birds and Cut The Rope, no one I know even plays games on iP4 at all.

If you're on a 3GS, it's a different story. But if you're on a 3GS, then simply upgrading to iP4 is a massive upgrade already...the 4S is just a slightly faster version.

So again, A5 chip is all well and good, but it isn't a real upgrade since it won't change my user experience at all...nor will it for 99% of iP4 users. If you're not playing 3D games on these things, it's no "upgrade".

The AI for good voice command doesn't exist yet. It's currently being researched under the funding of DARPA.

Hate to bust anyone's bubble, but voice command tech is going to suck for several more years. (more like 10 or more)

Also, that kind of AI will be run entirely in the cloud, your phone or computer won't have anything to do with it.
