It's fine that it matters to you. My point is that no one I know (and I know DOZENS with iP4s) is going to care a single shred that the iP4S can play Infinity Blade 2. In fact, past Angry Birds and Cut The Rope, no one I know even plays games on iP4 at all.

If you're on a 3GS, it's a different story. But if you're on a 3GS, then simply upgrading to iP4 is a massive upgrade already...the 4S is just a slightly faster version.
The difference is any OS greatly benefits from the jump from one core to two. Ultimately, if you've got no problem with the performance of your 4, that's great but you can't say that the 4S isn't much better.

So again, A5 chip is all well and good, but it isn't a real upgrade since it won't change my user experience at all...nor will it for 99% of iP4 users. If you're not playing 3D games on these things, it's no "upgrade".
This is the part I don't understand. How can you say it isn't a real upgrade? Have you compared the 1st gen iPad to the 2nd gen iPad? There's a dramatic difference in response, fluidity, etc.

You've got the camera (inc. video), better 3G talk time, faster processor & better graphics, Siri, faster RAM (possibly more), better call quality/reception, etc. You don't consider any of that an upgrade over what the 4 has? I'd upgrade from a 4 just for the speed alone all the other things are just big pluses. To each his own though, there's no reason to upgrade if you don't want to.

Hate to bust anyone's bubble, but voice command tech is going to suck for several more years. (more like 10 or more)

Also, that kind of AI will be run entirely in the cloud, your phone or computer won't have anything to do with it.
It does run mostly in a cloud, according to what I've read by a very educated user on another forum. However, it does rely on the GPUs to process the input and break it down into small strings as well as filter out background noise, although they sounded much (cooler and) more technical when he said it.

android already has some pretty decent voice recognition software, but i dont think apple would release this if it wasn't at least as-good-as what android has

Wrong, I've seen plenty of single core phones stutter (iPhone 4 included), dual core helps alleviate that.

The biggest upgrade I've had was from a 2Ghz Athlon XP single core to a 2Ghz Pentium E2180 dual core, simply due to the second core.

The AI for good voice command doesn't exist yet? Then what do you call Siri?

BTW, has anyone downloaded iOS5 and tried Siri out?

Would have to agree...

I'd probably be satisfied with an iPhone 4 for now, but why not get the latest and greatest (and fastest) when upgrading?

Not sure what to say. My iPhone doesn't stutter for me, maybe if I launch an Angry Bird into a tower of 1,000 blocks it will...but things like that don't really make me go out and spend a couple hundred dollars to improve.

Comparing iOS to Windows or Mac OS and citing what dual core does for the latter isn't exactly an apples to apples comparison...or even close to it.

Not even in games, just in the OS itself, Android and WP7 occasionally do too.

And it does actually, iOS runs a slimmed down and altered OS X kernel, just like Android being slimmed down and altered (Dramatically) Linux, dual cores help a lot simply because it lets one core do all the background fluff while one core does the stuff you're doing, although I have a feeling a lot of the improvements can be traced to LPDDR2 or LPDDR3 vs LPDDR1.
